DoD Identifies Army Casualties
The Department of Defense announced today the death of five soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died on Sept. 28, in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, where their M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle was attacked by enemy forces using indirect fire. The soldiers were assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division, New Milford, Pa. Killed were:

The Department of Defense announced today the death of an airman who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Airman 1st Class Elizabeth N. Jacobson, 21, of Riviera Beach, Fla., died Sept. 28 near Camp Bucca, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near her convoy vehicle. Jacobson was assigned to the 17th Security Forces Squadron, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

Steve Morin, Jr., 34, of Arlington, Texas, died west of Umm Qasr, Iraq, on Sept. 28, when an improvised explosive device detonated, overturning the HMMWV in which he was riding. Morin was assigned to the Army National Guard's 111th Engineer Battalion, 36th Infantry Division, Mineral Wells, Texas.

DoD Identifies Navy Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Seaman Apprentice Robert D. Macrum, 22, of Sugarland, Texas, was lost at sea. He was last seen the evening of Sept. 12 while the ship was underway. Macrum was assigned to the USS Princeton, currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf conducting maritime security operations as part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.

Ortega, 19, of Oxnard, Calif., died Sept. 26 as result of a non-hostile gunshot wound at Camp Baharia, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. The incident is currently under investigation.

PERSIAN GULF (NNS) -- Air and surface forces of the Nimitz  Carrier Strike Group ended dedicated search and rescue (SAR)  operations Sept. 17 in the Persian Gulf after a five-day search for  a Sailor discovered missing from the guided-missile cruiser USS  Princeton (CG 59) Sept. 13. 
 
Strike group assets will continue search efforts while conducting  routine operations in the area.
 
After the Sailor did not report as scheduled for a watch that  morning, the crew began an immediate and thorough search on  board Princeton. Once all spaces on the ship had been searched,  U.S. and coalition SAR operations began from the point of the  ship's position when the Sailor was last seen the evening of Sept.  12.
 
The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.

Princeton, currently on a regularly scheduled deployed to the  Persian Gulf, conducts maritime security operations (MSO) as  part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.

MSO set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime  environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and  security efforts of regional nations. MSO deny international  terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or  to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.

 PERSIAN GULF (NNS) -- Air and surface forces of the Nimitz  Carrier Strike Group are conducting Search and Rescue (SAR)  operations in the Persian Gulf after a Sailor from the  guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) was discovered  missing Sept. 13.
 
 An immediate and thorough search aboard Princeton began after  the Sailor failed to report for watch that morning. After the search  of every space aboard the ship did not locate the Sailor, SAR  operations began from the point of the ship's position when the  Sailor was last seen, combing the area for any sign of the Sailor.
 The Sailor was last seen the evening of Sept. 12.
 SAR operations have been continuous and are ongoing in a  360-square-mile area.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sgt. Kurtis D. K. The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Hospitalman Robert N. Martens, 20, of Queen Creek, Ariz., died Sept. 6, from injuries sustained as a passenger when his HMMWV rolled over in Al Qaim, Iraq. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Martens was assigned to II Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Lance Cpl. Ryan J. Nass, 21, of Franklin, Wis., died Sept. 3 from a non-hostile gunshot wound at Camp Blessing, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. The incident is under investigation.
