REMARKS: PROBABLY DEAD

SYNOPSIS: William Yarbrough and Pilot Allen Brady were flying an A6A near
Thanh Hoa when their aircraft received Anti-Aircraft Artillery fire damage.
Both ejected, but observers stated that the "streamers" on Yarbrough's
chute did not open. Allen Brady was captured.

William Yarbrough was on the 69 list of PW's per the bracelet organization
"VIVA" (Voices in Vital America). The organization began with family members
of POW and MIAs.

Allen Brady  came home on March 14, 1973 after five years in captivity.

On August 14, 1985, William Yarbrough remains were returned to the United
States.

On October 7, 1985, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILH, now DPAA) identified the remains of Commander William Pleasant Yarbrough Jr., missing from the Vietnam War.

Commander Yarbrough joined the U.S. Navy from Texas and was a member of Attack Squadron 85. On January 19, 1967, he was the navigator and bombardier aboard an A-6A Intruder taking part in a strike mission against enemy targets at the Dong Phong Thong Transportation Complex in Vietnam. Commander Yarbrough's Intruder was downed by anti-aircraft fire during the mission, and he was killed in the incident. Immediate search and recovery efforts were unsuccessful. In 1985, CDR Yarbrough was identified among a set of remains that the Vietnamese government had returned to U.S. custody on August 14 of that year. 

Commander Yarbrough is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
