COL JACK WILTON WEATHERBY

Return to Service Member Profiles

On September 11, 1978, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Colonel Jack Wilton Weatherby, missing from the Vietnam War.

Colonel Weatherby entered the U.S. Air Force from Texas and was a member of the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On July 29, 1965, he piloted an RF-101C Voodoo (tail number 56-0067) on a mission against enemy targets in Yen Bia Province, North Vietnam. During the mission, the aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed, killing Col Weatherby. His remains were not recovered at the time. In 1978, the Vietnamese government repatriated human remains from this crash site, and U.S. investigators were able to identify Col Weatherby from these remains.

Colonel Weatherby is memorialized in the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
