MAJ PATRICK EDWARD WYNNE

Return to Service Member Profiles

On March 31, 1977, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILH, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Patrick Edward Wynne, missing from the Vietnam War.

Major Wynne joined the U.S. Air Force from Arkansas and was a member of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On August 8, 1966, he was the pilot of an F-4C Phantom II that took part in an armed reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam. Major Wynne's aircraft was damaged by anti-aircraft fire during the mission, forcing it to fall out of formation. As U.S. investigators would learn after the war, both members of the Phantom's crew bailed out over Duong Hoa Village, where they were captured and killed. Immediate search and recovery efforts were unsuccessful in locating the aircraft or its crew. In 1977, the Vietnamese government returned remains that were identified as those of Maj Wynne.

Major Wynne is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
