On October 3, 1978, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii
(CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Wallace
Luttrell Wiggins, missing from the Vietnam War.
Major Wiggins entered the U.S. Air Force from California and was
a member of the 509th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. On February
3, 1968, he piloted an F-102A Delta Dagger (tail number 56-1166,
call sign "Jersey White 02") on a combat mission over North
Vietnam. During the mission, his aircraft was hit by enemy
anti-aircraft fire; Maj Wiggins attempted to fly the damaged
aircraft away from the combat area and eventually ejected over
Houaphan Province, Laos, but did not survive the incident. In
1978, the Vietnamese government repatriated human remains
correlating to this loss and U.S. analysts identified Maj
Wiggins from these remains.
Major Wiggins is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at
the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
