LTCOL HOBART MCKINLEY WALLACE JR.

Return to Service Member Profiles

On March 27, 2002, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Colonel Hobart McKinley Wallace Jr., missing from the Vietnam War.

Lieutenant Colonel Wallace joined the U.S. Marine Corps from West Virginia and was a member of Marine All-Weather Attack Squadron 533, Marine Air Group 12. On January 19, 1968, he piloted an A-6A Intruder (bureau number 152636) on a strike mission over enemy territory in Vietnam. The Intruder went down at some point during the mission, and LtCol Wallace was killed as a result of the incident. Efforts to locate or recover him at the time were unsuccessful. In April 1986, the Vietnamese government returned a set of unidentified remains to U.S. custody. In 2002, advances in forensic technology allowed for some of the returned remains to be identified as those of LtCol Wallace.

Lieutenant Colonel Wallace is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
