On May 4, 1977, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Junior Grade Roy Dean Sikkink, missing from the Vietnam War.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Sikkink joined the U.S. Navy from Illinois and was a member of Light Attack Squadron 4. On July 19, 1969, he was the observer aboard an OV-1A Mohawk on a routine patrol mission over South Vietnam near the border with Cambodia. The aircraft was shot down near Ap Bac, South Vietnam, and LTJG Sikkink was killed in the crash. Enemy presence in the area prevented immediate recovery efforts for LTJG Sikkink's remains. His remains were recovered in April 1973, and forensic analysis identified them a few years later.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Sikkink is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
