Dewey Lee Smith of Fairdale, believed to have been held in captivity as a prisoner of war longer
than any other Kentuckian, died Monday 2-9-15 while on vacation in Alabama.

Col. Smith, 85, a U.S. Air Force veteran who was born in Louisville on Veterans Day in 1929, was
interned as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam after he was shot down on June 2, 1967, and was
held until his release on March 4, 1973....

Our local paper was wrong in the fact of stating Dewey was longest held from Kentucky in
announcing his death.  He was not the longest held from Ky.

Thank you,

Elaine Smith, wife
