On March 26, 1975, the Central Identification
Laboratory-Thailand (CILT, now DPAA) identified the remains of
Staff Sergeant James Alvin Ravencraft, missing from the Vietnam
War.
Staff Sergeant Ravencraft joined the U.S. Army from Ohio and
served with Company E, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment. On
June 18, 1968, he was a member of a reconnaissance patrol that
came under enemy attack near Phong Ding, Vietnam. Staff Sergeant
Ravencraft was killed in the attack, and his remains could not
be recovered at the time. In 1975, search teams returned to the
area and recovered SSG Ravencraft's remains, which were then
transferred to CILT for identification.
