CPL CHARLES MCMAHON

Return to Service Member Profiles

On February 26, 1976, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILH, now DPAA) identified the remains of Corporal Charles McMahon, missing from the Vietnam War.

Corporal McMahon joined the U.S. Marine Corps from Massachusetts and was a member of the Marine Security Guard Battalion stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, adjacent to Tan Son Nhut Air Base. On April 29, 1975, he was killed by an enemy rocket that hit his position outside of the embassy. His remains were taken to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Saigon; however, they were not recovered during the U.S. evacuation from Saigon the next day. In February 1976, the Vietnamese government returned Cpl McMahon's remains to U.S. custody.
