On December 15, 1986, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILH, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Patrick Peter Murray, missing from the Vietnam War.

Major Murray joined the U.S. Marine Corps from Minnesota and was a member of Marine All-Weather Attack Squadron 533, Marine Air Group 12. On January 19, 1968, he was the bombardier and navigator aboard an A-6A Intruder (bureau number 152636) on a strike mission over enemy territory in Vietnam. The Intruder went down at some point during the mission, and Maj Murray was killed in the incident. Efforts to locate or recover him were unsuccessful. In April 1986, the Vietnamese government returned a set of unidentified remains to U.S. custody, which were later identified as those of Maj Murray.

Major Murray is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
