Lance Corporal (LCpl) James Rodney Moore, who joined the U.S. Marine Corps from New York, was a member of Company A of the 9th Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. On February 28, 1967, he was assigned to provide flanking security for engineer equipment on Route 13 near Da Nang, South Vietnam. He disappeared from his position. A search for LCpl Moore found no sign of him, and he remains unaccounted for. After the incident, the Marine Corps promoted LCpl Moore to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt). Today, Staff Sergeant Moore is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
