On November 9, 1973, the Central Identification
Laboratory–Thailand (CILT, now DPAA) identified the remains of
Staff Sergeant Marvin Raymond McCain Jr., missing from the
Vietnam War.
Staff Sergeant McCain entered the U.S. Army from Alabama and
served with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment,
3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. On June 20, 1986, he was
killed in action against enemy forces near Hua Nghia Province,
South Vietnam. Subsequent ground and aerial search efforts
failed to locate his body at the time. The Vietnamese government
later repatriated a set of human remains that U.S. analysts
identified as SST McCain.
