PRELIMINARY FINDINGS

1. No Medal of Honor recipient names Sgt Michaels can be located in historical records.

2. Although an attempt has NOT been made to secure military records for Roger L. Grinstead, prelim searches cannot locate a Vietnam Veteran by that name in DoD databases, Agent Orange data bases or on Military.com. Grinstead could not be reached by phone - it asked for "mailbox number".

3. Tony Diamond passed away in late 1999. It is impossible to verify the authenticity of the letter. What IS plausible was that Tony's state of mind was subject to suggestibility.  His drug use DURING his USO tours makes us wonder if he could have recognized his WIFE during any tour. His state of mind just a few months before passing away from terminal cancer......

4. While "counting POWs"  - subject claims he was on the Ho Chi Minh Trail with (he THINKS) 1st Recon (a Marine unit) but says he was a LRRP/LRP.

5. The POW, Jim Holland, that subject claims he talked to with the Sheriff  present - is NOT noted on any historical database for Vietnam POW returnees. The phone number provided  for Holland - 480-857-8238 - traces to a Lisa Stubbs.

6. Senator McCain's office does acknowledge helping him get some records - but also stated "they cannot stop him from making his claims."

7. Another reference - Ronald Quigly (top of letterhead) or Quigley (signature)  in "freka" CA cannot be reached by phone in YREKA, (and it's QUIGLEY). (This page is not in this file).

8. Change in Rank: An Army MOS go from 11B10 to 11B20  when a person gets promoted in rank. 

The first three slots in an Army MOS are for the actual MOS or job title/description.  11B is, generally considered to be Light weapons Infantryman, if you look at one of the URL's for these things you can see that it cam be for more jobs then just Grunt.

 

The forth slot is for rank.  This can vary for different times.   A one or two would equal to the lower EM ranks/pay grades.  When I retired in August 1973 my MOS was 11B4S and I was a SSG/E-6.  Now, a four in that slot would be for an E-7.  Back in the late 60's as an E-5 it was 3.  BJ
