UPDATE - 04/29/02

Spoke with Reed. First he "pulled rank." When corrected and addressed as "Private Reed" -  it was "I thought this was all fixed." Then an "I'm sorry". I'll never do it again. Bad memory. Psychological problems. Makes me do this!

THAT was just minutes before he made a phone call to a friend stating there is a huge mixup. HIS records are mixed with a Privates with the SAME name! The FBI visited his house that morning and it's all straightened out.

Latest notes:

Reported to VA Inspector General Fraud Hotline....
His Rank bestowed by Gen Schwartzkopf for "covert mission" successfully completed.
He tales tales of horrendous combat experiences in PTSD group.
He HAS military retirees I.D. card and HAS Arsenal access as general officer.
He had filed bankruptcy in the mid 90's.
He is expecting a call any time now to return to active duty for the new war.
Not married, dating.
Served 23 years.... or 36 .... depends on the days tale!
Attended Birmingham TROA meeting and took application for membership several years ago. DID NOT return.
Did show TROA "some type" of retirees I.D. card
Has "NO command presence"  - VERY out of shape and overweight

APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED

A man by the name of Richard Deane Reed, service number xxxxxxxxxxxxx, makes several claims regarding military service.  One of these is that he was a POW  for a short period in VN.  Can you tell me if this is true?

Also, he claims that he was on the raid to rescue POW's in 1970.  That is a former member of the Delta Force and a Special Forces soldier.  He further  claims to be a retired General officer.  Can you tell me if any of these are  true?

                                      Thanks

Just to update you on this "person".  He now says that he contacted YOU and  that you are updating POW lists to include him (he says since he was held  less than 30 days in Cambodia as opposed to VN he was not listed).  I am  sorry to keep harping on this guy, but he is using this POW story in every  way imaginable.  Including as his excuse for domestic violence for which he was arrested.  He makes me sick.

Anyway, thanks for your help and all your prompt responses.  You all are doing good work for a good cause.

HAVE HAD ABSOLUTELEY NO CONTACT WITH  "REED" !!!!!!

Doesn't matter where he was held - we have men held for DAYS (not months) listed.....  Would love to talk to the detectives on this case - have had one attempted murder (same excuse) 2 embezzlement, and a molestation blamed on captivity. NOT ONE was a POW. Hope he's not holding his breath -- the only list he'll find himself on is the HALL OF SHAME
