Please Google "Stolen Valor and Supreme Court" - there are
hundreds of articles on the oral arguments held Feb 22. |
Dear Professor Turley,
I read with dismay your op/ed item
about Stolen Valor in the Washington Post and also heard you
discuss it on public radio. While I respect your right to
an opinion, it seems to me that someone of your stature
should, and would desire to, write an informed opinion.
Judging from both items, above, I am convinced that you are
NOT informed of the veterans’ perspective and am not aware
that you consulted any of prominent person who participates
with us on Stolen Valor issues.
I submitted the following item to the
Washington Post, today. The Post may or may not print it,
so hereafter follows my rejoinder to you.
I’ve also included it as an attachment.
Sincerely yours, Thomas A. Richards
Semper fidelis,
Tom Richards

This young Marine has put into words an
argument the Supreme Court should have heard today. God Bless
him and all who serve - and heaven have mercy on the souls of
the phonies the Marines get to before anyone else.

Wow, All kinds of interesting stuff going on in my part of
the world so, I turn to the internet to escape and see how life
is back in the real world. After reading the above I find my
original amusement turning into contempt. Gunny Driveway, (and I
am very proud of having given you that name.) I am also a
resident of NJ albeit currently deployed. I have given 19 years
of my life so far in service to my nation. I never attained the
rank of Sergeant Major; before I pinned on a bar, I was only a
lowly SFC
I
earned every stripe, every medal, every commendation, and every
opportunity I have had. Let me tell you what my service has cost
me and my family: - I have been gone for all but 9 weeks of my
son’s life because of my current deployment. - Due to this
deployment alone, I have missed a year of my daughters lives
this is not counting previous time away from home. -I have
missed countless birthdays and anniversaries. -My absence has
added stress to my marriage and required my wife to give and do
more than should ever be asked of anyone. (I am lucky to have
her,and to have the opportunity to try to be worthy of her.) -I
have suffered my fair share of bumps, bruises, breaks, and
contusions.
In return for what I have given, I ask nothing of my nation
in return other than respect. Respect for what I and hundreds of
thousands of others like me have given. I give the same respect
in return even to those who disagree with what I do. Then I come
across someone like you.
You clearly have made some major mistakes in your life and
have shown no remorse. You have taken advantage of others and
use every opportunity to blame others for your failings. You
resort to name calling and empty threats. You continue to
attempt to live your lies. You use your daughter in an attempt
to gain sympathy. You take advantage of your role in her life to
fill her mind with the same lies you tell yourself. This is
unforgivable and shows that you may possess the XY chromosome,
you may be male, but you are clearly not a man.
Then you put on a uniform. You claim rank and decorations and
show complete disrespect for those who have earned the right to
wear it and, most importantly, for those who died wearing it.
You are the worst kind of charlatan. You are beneath contempt. I
have met others like you before. Most were just sad Mitty’s who
were desperate for some sort of meaning in their life. Some were
young and stupid and could be shown the path to earning true
respect. You though, seem to be beyond redemption.
You take pride in thumbing your nose at the law and anyone
else who sees you for what you are. You seem to think that no
matter what you can convince everyone else of the same lies you
tell yourself. You think you’re smarter and quicker than those
around you. Based on what I have seen, the only thing you were
quicker than was a coat hanger. Since your PO and local LEOs are
busy, I offer the following to you. I have relatives in
Collingswood. When this deployment is over, I will be visiting
them. I’ll send you a message on FB and you can come meet me and
show me how you earned that rasslin’ belt. Or, I can make
arrangements with the MACP guys at Dix for use of the mats for
an hour or two. Or, I can find a martial arts instructor or gym
near you for the same purpose. (There are several, I’m sure
someone would be willing to accommodate.) If my not being a
Marine isn’t good enough, I am sure there are some Marines in NJ
or in the MCL willing to fill in.
I know you read this thread. I know that you, in some perverse
way, enjoy the attention being given. I am offering you the
opportunity to have attention lavished upon you. Bring your
DD214 and some PTs. Pack a lunch too, it’s going to be a long
day.

Lacking the mettle to wear any medal

Why lying about
military service is a constitutional right
The attempt to marry the
SVA to the bar-room war
story is truly sad.
These are not a bunch of
low-life dress-up
artists and harmless
liars but truly vile
criminals who not only
steal the valor of true
heroes but steal scant
funds from the truly
wounded and suffering at
the VA.
They then trot down with
bogus paperwork in hand
and take a job from a
more qualified veteran
with their 'preference'
based on a lie.
'Nobody is harmed by

most inaccurate
description of the
situation ever made.

LSU Student Indicted for Violations of Stolen Valor Act
02/16/2012
BATON ROUGE, LAUnited States Attorney Donald J Cazayoux, Jr
announced that a federal grand jury returned an indictment on
Thursday, February 16, 2012, charging ANDREW I BRYSON, 31, of
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with falsely claiming to have been
awarded the Purple Heart and unauthorized wearing of military
medals. BRYSON faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison
and fines of $200,000.
The indictment alleges that BRYSON falsely represented himself
to have been awarded the Purple Heart in an attempt to defraud
the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles and obtain a military
honor license plate for Purple Heart recipients. BRYSON is also
charged with wearing several military medals and ribbons, namely
the Purple Heart and Joint Service Commendation medals, at an
awards ceremony honoring veterans without authorization.
The investigation of BRYSON was conducted by the Federal Bureau
of Investigations with assistance from the Louisiana State
University Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by
Assistant United States Attorney Cam T Le.
NOTE: An indictment is a determination by a grand jury that
probable cause exists to believe that offenses have been
committed by a defendant.
The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven
guilty at trial.
