Norman Kutz, North Carolina

USED TO Work for a military contractor!

The Military Records

The Apology and Aftermath

The Tale

07/2001 -- While we are quite unsure how to "phrase" this - Normie no longer works for the military contractor. There was a change in management, and Normie was not among those asked to remain with the company. Not all had been convinced of his lies, just as not all had been convinced he told the truth regarding his covert ops and secret life... We can only suggest a new employer do their homework BEFORE he goes "undercover" protecting his identity again, and request military records!! DD214's are UNACCEPTABLE in this era of scanners and white-out!

Maybe his good buddy and Mentor, Rudy Boesch will recognize him from the photo?

Claims:

  1. While in Vietnam, he met and married his Vietnams wife, who bore him two children.  He was involved in a covert operation when someone let some information about his family slip and the next thing you know, he receives word that his family has been murdered.
  1. On a mission in some foreign country, he watched as his entire team was massacred, and he was the only survivor.
  1. After 18 years of service at the rank of LT. Commander, he was forced to resign because he was being sent on a mission that he did not agree with because it would have gotten all of his team killed.  No VA benefits, no retirement, nothing.  He burned all of his service paperwork because he was so angry.  He didn’t even keep any photos of his buddies.
  1. He limps around all the time and talks of aches and pains.  I asked him why he doesn’t go to the VA and he said he has been ordered, “in no uncertain terms is he to step foot into a VA hospital.”
  1. He said that while in some country somewhere, he was walking down the street with his girlfriend who was dressed very sexy.  He said the locals started coming up and trying to grab her so he had to pull his weapon and start firing in the middle of a crowd.  He said he was hitting many civilians and they were dropping like flies.  As the crowd got bigger, he decided he should run for the US Embassy.  As he was running up, the Marine guard drew his weapon because he saw someone coming at him with a gun.  Norm pointed his weapon at the Marine and shouted, “Open the gate or I will blow you away.  I am a Navy SEAL!”
  1. Says that he has received the Navy Cross. [Note: Public records and lists of Navy Cross recipients DO NOT list him as a recipient.]
  1. Says he was on the last helo out of Vietnam.
  1. Says he was in Grenada,  guarding the Governor.
  1. Says that he was given a mission to shoot Illich Ramirez A.K.A. Carlos The Jackal.  He said it is the only terrorist that the SEAL’s were ever given permission to shoot in public.  So he had his sight on him while Carlos was downtown in a crowd and his spotter told him to take the shot.  He did and thought he had shot him between the eyes and killed him.  He was a Hero among all SEAL’s and Special Forces worldwide.  Said he would walk through a room and everyone would point and whisper, “that’s the guy who killed Carlos.”  Then a year later he was sitting in a briefing room and they put Carlos’ picture up on the screen.  He thought they were going to use his kill as an example for something when the guy stood up and said, “Here is your next mission.  To shoot and kill Carlos.”  He hadn’t killed him after all.  But he did have a scar on his face from where he had shot him.  Because of that, the Navy naturally had to make some “administrative” changes to Norm’s life.  That is why there is no record of him being a SEAL.  His name had to be changed.

Here are some of the "accomplishments" of that fabulous hero, Norm:

  1. Claims to have an Engineering degree from Stanford University.  However, upon further investigation, it turns out he has NEVER attended Stanford.  This is from an official source at Stanford University, on official Stanford letterhead with seal/watermark.
  1. Claims 4, count 'em 4, Purple Hearts.
  1. Claims to have been awarded the Navy Cross.
  1. Among his other stories, he claims to have been on a Seal mission to expose "security deficiencies" on Air Force 1.  Claims to have found FBI Agents aboard Air Force One (not Secret Service) "sitting around, drinking coffee, talking & laughing", etc when Norm & his Seals raided the aircraft.
  1. Claims 18 years of service in the Navy; claims he was kicked out of the Navy after 18 years of service because he refused to go on a secret Seal mission that was against his principles or he didn't agree with.  Claims his rank was Lt. Commander.  In reality, according to his military record obtained via the Freedom of Information Act, he has merely 9 months of active service, his rank was Seaman, and his education does NOT include even a high school diploma.
  1. Claims his picture is in Dick Marcenko's book; claims Rudy, the former Navy Seal from last years Survivor TV show was his mentor, and credits Rudy for saving Norm's life.  Claims former Navy Seal Jesse Ventura is a good, personal friend of his, having done tours together in Vietnam.
  2. Claims head of SEAL team on hijacked Achille Lauro rescue attempt 1985.
  3. Claims that he lived on the Raeford drop zone (Raeford, NC), instead of getting a house/apartment and a job like everyone else, because he had "so much money" from all his years in the Navy, that he just wanted to "shut down" and live with his dog on the drop zone.  Strange how the possibility of Irvin employment changed all that.

E-mail from Navy Personnel:

That name does not appear in our list of Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL training (BUD/S) graduates. No BUD/S, no SEAL.

I'm sorry it took me so long to reply to your e-mail.  I've been on leave. I can check out your suspected impostor for you. Unfortunately, SEAL and Special Forces impersonators are not uncommon.

I have had to handle several of these cases since I started working here. Send me the guy's name, along with as much information as you have on his claims. Particularly useful information includes his claims of BUD/S class number, dates he attended BUD/S, dates he was in the Navy, and any commands in which he served.  There are only a handful of SEALs who have been awarded the Navy Cross, so I should be able to give you an answer on him as soon as I see his name.

Our records indicate that nobody named Norman Kutz has ever attended BUD/S training, let alone graduated, so your suspected impostor is indeed a fraud. I don't have access to records of people who are no longer in the Navy, so I am unable to tell you if he ever served.

Three cheers for your excellent web site! We here at Raeford have always known that Norm was full of shit, but to see his bluff called by such a quality site as yours is a joy to behold. I've known Norm since 1992 and I to have heard the countless hours of tall tales and lies. Norm was always a constant source of amusement here at the drop zone with his "one-upsmanship" of every true story told by a real veteran. I say amusement because his lies were so outrageous as to be totally unbelievable, (to most of us that is) I guess he fooled his new employer. The only story I was unaware of is his degree from Stanford. I guess he didn't need that until he went to work for Irvin. Keep up the good work and the pressure on the phonies.

P.S. If you'd like any clarification on Norms' "Hero" stories call me
