| Chicago Sun-Times July 13, 1987 Colleagues agree: North a good marine A scorecard on an office door at the U.S. Marine Corps reserve unit in Glenview says it simply: "Col. North 4, Congress 0." After four days of testimony before a congressional hearing investigating the Iran-contra controversy, Lt. Col. Oliver L. North proved - at least to his colleagues - that he was a good marine following his orders. But they disagreed on whether he went too far in carrying out those orders, which resulted in a growing scandal involving arms sales to Iran and use of profits to fund the Nicaraguan contras. "There is no question that every act that he performed was patriotic," said Arthur Beach, a retired Navy captain who was attached to the Marine Corps in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.....
