A.J. POINTER
(deceased)

"Major General A.J. Pointer"

I would appreciate any further information you can provide me on this. Mr. (I doubt he was even a general) Pointer is not nor ever did receive the Medal of Honor. I also can not find him in my database for recipients of the DSC as well.

Furthermore, his photo shows him in a U.S. Army Air Force (WWII) uniform yet the Medal of Honor he displays is the U.S. Air Force Medal of Honor that was not authorized until the 1960s. To further compound the problem with the ribbons displayed, he is showing the Kuwait Liberation Medal which was ONLY for service in 1991 during the first Gulf War.

There are multiple other errors with this display, but the bottom line is, almost all of this record is suspect. If anything, it would be good if we could find out where he got the Air Force Medal of Honor and get it out of circulation. It certainly was NOT authorized to Mr. Pointer.

Thanks again. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or for a more official verification, call the Congressional Medal of Honor Society at: (843) 884-8862

Sincerely,

Doug Sterner

One: He claimed to be a Major General (two stars). Why does he have Lieutenant General (three stars) insignia?

Two: The ribbon rack has two Army of Occupation ribbons and two Army Good Conduct ribbons on it, the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Silver Star are in the wrong order of precedence, for that matter, they're ALL out of precedence! The ribbons and medals also are not what the person in the painting is wearing. Seems like if he was a "Major General" he'd know how to have his ribbons and medals organized properly. The very few Generals I've met always appeared immaculate.

With having the WWII Gunners wings, the Army Senior Aviator wings, Parachute badge, and the Air Force Senior and Command Pilot wings, I'd be interested in knowing what his flying history was, and how many hours of "01" time he had.

Who is this guy? General Curtis LeMay's long lost twin brother?
Just rechecked the Cheney award recipients. This guy isn't even listed. Big surprise, huh?
