"He just appeared on ABC 11 here locally telling of how he was a Ranger, Sergeant, Wounded in Combat, Explosives Ordinance Disposal Specialist, Korean War Veteran.

He was putting out the flags at the local cemetary as he has for the past 20 years and has been telling lies all twenty of them while doing it on top of veterans graves!!!!!!!!!!!  He was wearing a ball cap of some sort with some type of big round patch on it and clearly surrounding it was all of the ..... he had been wearing on his DAV, VFW and American Legion Headgear that had got him kicked out i.e. the purple heart, csm stripes, EOD badge, jump master wings and more. The reporter asked him if he knew many of the veterans buried in the graveyard and he said yes many and went on to say that as long as he was alive he was going to keep on putting the flags on their graves and then broke down into a fake assed cry!!!!!

He still had the Purple Heart License Plate on his car which is shown on on the video ....."

On Thursday, November 10th, 2005 WDVT ABC 11 Action News at 6:00 PM did a feature story on a Korean War Army Sergeant, Ranger, explosives expert, combat wounded, hero that was putting putting flags out upon the graves of deceased veterans and soldiers who had been killed overseas. The man later identified as Mr. Walter M. Sams went on camera while standing atop these graves telling of how bad his war in Korea was and how he knew many of those buried in the Oak Grove Cemetary where he was putting out the flags. Mr. Sams said with a have cry and tear that he would continue to do what he was doing so long as he lived. After the segment completed Mr. Larry Stogner of ABC 11 commented that he personally knew Mr. Sams and knew that he had been badly wounded in Korea. Well folks none of what you saw was the truth except that Mr. Sams is in fact a Korean War veteran. He was never a Sergeant, a Ranger, an explosives expert nor was he badly wounded especially by the enemy. He was wounded opening food rations of his own accord however. I have Mr. Sams Official records I obtained with a Freedom of Information Act Request from the National Personnel Records and can prove what I say to be true. I have asked ABC 11 to retract their story on Mr. Sams and to tell the truth about him and his military service but they refuse to do so. Instead they want to stand by the lies they aired on Nov. 10th. I ask everyone especially the veteran community to contact ABC 11 and tell them to tell the truth. For more about Mr. Sams you can go to my website www.specsec.org Thank you all.

11/23/2005  ABC 11 has YET to correct this story.

The local newspaper - wants no part of the truth.

Jaimie,
I tend to think this is between you and Channel 11.

05/21/04:
Disabled American Veterans- Told him to remove all unauthorized items from his headgear and never to wear it again but allowed him to retain membership and position as Senior Vice Cmdr.

The American Legion- Told him complaints were made about him and was told that he would not be elected from Jr. Vice Cmdr. to Senior Vice Cmdr. and was allowed to maintain membership despite the fact that he was wearing unauthorized items on his legion service cap and has a Purple Heart License Plate they know he did not earn.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2740 - Called him in and had him sign his resignation paperwork, asked for their keys back and told him to never step foot back onto the property or police would be called for violations us Title 18.

There is a Memorial Day Ceremony at the local cemetery. Seems Mr. Sams was on the local news week of May 23, 2004 showing him putting flags on veterans graves.

You do have incorrect information on your web site  regarding Walter Malcolm Sams’ membership in the DAV.  Although what you say is correct about what the Department did.  Walter was not allowed to remain the Chapter’s Sr. Vice Commander nor the Property Officer, he was told he had to transfer his membership out of the Chapter to National At-Large, and that he was never to come to any Chapter activities by the Chapters Executive Committee.

.... (above) is correct except what he is talking about occurred some time after the events noted on the website which is also accurate and occurred chronologically prior to Sams being disciplined by the DAV.
