14,2006 Marine Sgt. Maj. J.C. Ortiz has spent at least the last 15 years living a lie. The story he has told his friends and family countless times about his decorated war record is not true. Sgt. Maj. J.C. Ortiz never existed. There were no seven Purple Hearts. No four tours of combat in Vietnam. And he certainly was never a sergeant major. The lies caught up with Ortiz, born Gerrald Jerome Bowman, on Tuesday. He admitted the medals and battlefield stories were all lies --------------------------------------------- Here in South Texas, we have recently uncovered another fraud. This man's real name is "Bowman". For some reason, he took the name of another man. Known as Sgt. Maj. J.C. Ortiz, he was exposed. A few weeks ago, one of the traveling VietNam Walls visited McAllen, Texas and my husband and I went to see it. This fake Marine was there, breathing the same air alongside the mother of Pvt. Freddie Gonzalez of Edinburg, Texas, who was decorated posthumously after losing his life inVietNam many years ago. Just a few days after the "Traveling Wall" left town, he was exposed. Have a look at what our newspaper had to say. http://www.themonitor.com/ortiz Mrs. C.H. N. http://www.themonitor.com/SiteProcessor.cfm?Template=/GlobalTemplates/Stories2.cfm&Section=Ortiz Video
