Tom Silas Military Background

Tom entered marines in 1972, trained at Paris Island in SC for basic training dive intstructor (DI) training earned his staff SGT position at Camp Pendleton in Ocean Side CA. His special Recon Training earned him a Master Gunary Sgt, shortly after shipped to Vietnam. While there his M.O.S. was, Recon, Search and destroy, and search and rescue. He was a part of the 142nd Platoon then took over and commanded the 42nd platoon as a commisions officer, 8 months later he was in charge of 62 infantry soldiers. Shortly after he was captured in Dvanne (or Duanne) while resuing a 4 month old baby Vietneese it was a set trap, he was captured and taken to Sigon and kept as a prisioner at Hotel Hilton for 9 mos. He was released on 8-23-73 on Nixion Peace tready, went to VA hospital for 6 mons. he was discharged with honorable in August of 74 with many ribbons, stripes and medals.
