Jeffrey L. Habeck died October 7, 2004, in Shawano, Wisconsin. He was born November 11, 1956. Habeck was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Vietnam Veterans of America-Shawano Chapter 206.

To the Editors of the VVA:

Was there an error made on Mr. Jerry L. Habeck's birthday year? You stated 11 November 1956

We pulled out troops from Vietnam in March 1973. Mr. Habeck would have been 16 years old in March 1973.

Are you saying he fought in Vietnam at the age of 16?

Thank you.

2010 ..... Apparently, he fraudulently enlisted in the USAR in April of 2010. He had been discharged in 2005 for misconduct and reduced to E-1 with a reenlistment code on his DD214 that was supposed to make him ineligible for reentry into service. He even applied for discharge upgrade in 2009 and early 2010 and was denied both times.

USARC’s Retention Branch did some investigating and cut discharge orders on him for fraudulent enlistment dated 1 Nov 10 with his reduction to E-1.....

 OH
2003 - Claims he graduated from Ranger school in April 64.  Checked with RTB and there is no record of him graduating.  They checked all 1964 classes.

He has a web site at www.uswings.com where he sells uniform parts. One of his items is a
Jungle Fatigue shirt "Set up just like Sgt. Hack wore it in Vietnam". The Shirt has a 1st BN Scroll over a Ft. Benning "Follow Me" patch on the left sleeve and a 1st Infantry Division Patch with a RANGER TAB over it on the right shoulder. He claims  that he "was with the 1st Bat. at Fort Benning GA. 1964-1966 was with the Army Ranger Camp Back and forward field five and field seven Eglin AFB FL".  He is also claiming Retirement as an E-7. He states in his Bio. on his web site that he joined the Coast Guard in 1958 and switched to Rangers and Retired in 1973. There is also a picture of him in Army Greens on the web site showing him with a Black Beret and E-7 stripes and 18 years worth of Hash Marks. How does he rate 18 years when his bio says 15 years? How could he have been with 1st
Batt in 1964-1966 when there was no 1st Batt. and only Lettered Ranger Companies (LRRPS) which were only designated as 75th Rangers in 1969?

DD214 he is using showing all Ranger info is falsified. It's form dated 1979..... he got out in 1973 according to his own retirement certificate!

Question: Rumors and innuendoes are circulating questioning Sgt. Hack's service as a US Army Ranger. What are the facts?

Answer: In 1964, Sgt. Hack enlisted in the Army volunteering for Ranger Training. He processed through the recruiter in Phoenix, AZ and then Fort Ord, CA to the Ranger Department at Fort Benning, GA in 1965, fully believing he was on track for Ranger School training. Based on his prior service in the Coast Guard, he was a natural fit for the cadre in the Ranger School's amphibious phase of Ranger jungle training and he was immediately assigned to serve as a Harbor Craft Boatswain at the Ranger Department's camp at Eglin Air Force Base, FL while waiting for his Ranger Class start date........

HUDSON -- David Hack still says he never lied about his military service.

Hack called a press conference for Monday but refused to answer questions. Instead, Hack's attorney, Dean Hoover, claimed that Hack is the victim of a political smear campaign. CLAIMING PURPLE HEART(S)
VFW - EXPOSED

.
HALEY, TIMOTHY J 06/2010 .
I greatly appreciate your interest in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams, and your search for the TRUTH. Before answering your questions I must make clear that I am a private individual, not affiliated with the US Dept. of Defense or any other government organization. My efforts to expose SEAL imposters are performed as a service to the public, and in honor of my SEAL Teammates who gave their lives in service to our nation… men who truly earned the right to the title “US NAVY SEAL” but who are no longer able to stand forward in defense of their honor, their reputations, and their TEAMs.

If the name you provided is spelled correctly, I do NOT find a listing in the SEAL Database (SEAL Teams and predecessor units from1943 to the Present Day) for anyone named TIMOTHY J. HALEY. I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names with similar pronunciations without finding any that appear to be applicable.

Unless he has undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for which there would be evidence in the form of court documentation) since his claimed attendance at BUD/S training, and based upon the information you have provided, I can state conclusively that TIMOTHY J. HALEY has NEVER COMPLETED SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL, a Navy UDT “Frogman”, a member of any Naval Combat Demolition Unit (NCDU), or a member of the Naval Amphibious Scouts & Raiders (S&R).

When members of the Naval Special Warfare community meet others who claim similar service, but whom they do not recognize, there is a conversational exchange of information that establishes the bona fides of each to the other. There is no set formula for this exchange, nor for the information that is exchanged, but it ALWAYS takes place, and the REAL Naval Special Warfare members can ALWAYS spot a phony as a result of this exchange. If Mr. NAME persists in insisting that his SEAL claims are legitimate, I might suggest that you ask him these questions:

(1) Since there is no listing in the SEAL Database for the name you are currently using, WHAT NAME DID YOU USE during SEAL training?

(2) What was his BUD/S Class Number? (NB: No SEAL ever forgets the class number he shouted all day long, every day, for 6 months)?

(3) Where did his training take place? (NB: Training has been conducted at several locations over the years; different portions in different places)?

(4) When did he graduate from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training? (i.e. a specific graduation DATE)?

(5) When did he enter the US Navy (a specific month and year)?

(6) When did he leave the US Navy (a specific month and year)?

(7) What were his Primary and Secondary Naval Enlisted Classification codes –NEC– or his Naval Officer Billet Code – NOBC?

There are many other questions which could be asked to further establish the level of veracity or untruth regarding his claims, such as asking for the names of other members of his graduating class, but those basic questions are absolutes. The answers to those questions are totally UNCLASSIFIED, and every real SEAL will gladly provide that substantiating information upon request.

I might suggest that you also ask Mr. HALEY to specifically identify WHICH SEAL Team(s) he served on, and when. I am in direct contact with several hundred of my SEAL Teammates whose collective experience covers virtually all time periods from the Korean War to the present; I can quickly contact those individuals to verify any specific names, events, or other claims offered by Mr. HALEY.

Before any classified operations may be undertaken as a SEAL Operator, a man must first successfully complete the BUD/S Training program and the follow-on secondary training program; the names of all those who successfully graduate from that training program are compiled in the SEAL database. Later participation in classified operations has no impact on whether or not a person is listed as a graduate of the training program. There are records of every man who has qualified for the title of “SEAL”; there have been and will continue to be secret missions, but there are NO secret SEALs.

Once again I must stress that although I am a US Navy veteran, and a former SEAL, I am a civilian performing in an entirely unofficial role. For formal/official US NAVY confirmation of my findings regarding Mr. HALEY’s lack of SEAL credentials you may contact the FOIA COORDINATOR at the NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE COMMAND in San Diego, California, and submit a formal FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT inquiry in writing.

Thank you again for your concern in this matter, and for your assistance in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams. If I can be of any further assistance to you in this matter, please contact me at your convenience.

HANKE, TROY MICHAEL  11/2009 WA Claims he was a Navy SEAL.  Local church has him in charge of the Boy Scouts and wants him to teach them weapons, survival etc. He wears a trident on his clothes.

ACTUAL RECORDS

Dear POW Network,
Upon examining the military personnel records of Mr. TROY MICHAEL HANKE which you forwarded to me, I find the following:

Mr. HANKE enlisted in the US Navy on 24 Oct 1991.

Following Basic Training (boot camp), Mr. HANKE attended Operations Specialist (OS) “A” School
. Operation Specialists (OS) function as plotters, radio-telephone and Command and Control sound-powered telephone talkers and maintain Combat Information Center (CIC) displays of strategic and tactical information. They operate surveillance and altitude radars Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), and associated equipment. They also serve as Air Traffic Controllers for helicopters and fixed-wing supersonic jet aircraft. OS Sailors serve as watch supervisors and section leaders; interpret and evaluate presentations and tactical situations and make recommendations to supervisors during watch conditions. Operations Specialists usually work in a clean, air-conditioned electronic equipment space or computer room, and frequently perform their work as part of a team, but may work on individual projects. Their work is mostly mental analysis and problem solving. USN OSs are stationed primarily aboard USN deploying ships, FTS OSs are stationed aboard Naval Reserve Force (NRF) ships that deploy or conduct local operations. Upon completion of their training course, OSs are able to plot a ship's position, heading, and speed; operate common marine electronic navigation instruments including radar systems; and provide target plotting data to the combat information center based on information received from target tracking devices.

Following completion of his OS training, Mr. HANKE was stationed aboard three separate naval ships – USS HALEAKELA (AE-25), USS WHITE PLAINS (AFS-4), and USS ARKANSAS (CGS-41). Mr. HANKE also completed a 3-week course of instruction at the Student Combat Training Center (Pacific) in San Diego, California.

On 25 May 1997 Mr. HANKE was transferred to the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training program located at the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, California. Mr. HANKE did NOT complete the BUD/S Training program and he was subsequently transferred to another naval command on 18 Sep 1997.

The specific reason for his departure from the BUD/S Training course is not specified in the records I examined, but as there was no indication of his subsequent assignment to a medical facility, I can surmise that he was not dropped from the training program as a result of injuries. This would leave only two possible reasons for his early departure from that course of study… either (1) a voluntary “Drop on Request” (i.e. Mr. HANKE left the program of his own volition), or (2) a “Performance Drop” (i.e. a decision by the NSWC staff to drop Mr. HANKE from the training program for failure to meet required levels of performance).

As noted above, Mr. HANKE never completed the BUD/S Training program; he never served with any Navy SEAL Team.

Following his departure from the BUD/S Training program Mr. HANKE finished out his enlistment as a Naval Recruiter (Naval Enlisted Classification code 9585) at the Naval Recruit Depot in Chicago, Illinois, serving there until his discharge from the US Navy on 11 Jul 1998.

Hargrove, SSGTimothy 06/2010 NY 06/2010  Appropriate action was not taken by SSG. Hargrove command ( a local recruiter for the New York National Guard). I was made aware of the outlandish claims and photos of this recruiter wearing unauthorized war meddles. SSG Hargrove is not unauthorized the bronze star, a purple heart or combat medic badge. In fact he is not even authorized the Iraqi campaign meddle he was not even a medic when he was deployed in Kuwait . He has lied on several occasion when speaking with applicants as well as civilians. This person disgrace the uniform and everything that the military stands for.

......While on a cruise with his wife he portrayed himself as nothing less than a war hero. In the photo with a civilian he has on the following disputed awards; combat medic badge, bronze star, and the greatest insult a purple heart. Being a veteran of a foreign war as well as witness of the heroics of men and women in the midst of battle I take offense. Further more I have been witness wile this NCO boasted that he is a military police investigator as well as many other outlandish MOS's.

I find it very disheartening that someone such as he is recruiting our children filling them up with lies or much less in a uniform. I have obtained your email address because I believe that his chain of command should take care of this. I do not believe that the National Guard should go through any public embarrassment but if action is not taken the media as well as CID will be informed.....

Then there's Harkin's military service. In a 1980 book, "Changing the Guard: Power and Leadership in America," published by Simon and Schuster and written by David Broder, "Ace" had this to say: "I spent five years as a Navy pilot, starting in November of 1962. One year was in Vietnam. I was flying F4s and F8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions. I did no bombing. I don't know what I would have done if I had been ordered on bombing missions. But I did no bombing."

In 1984, Sen. Barry Goldwater wrote to the Des Moines Register saying, "I have seen the Navy record of Mr. Harkin, which is in the public domain, and there's nothing to indicate he ever flew in combat, or even in Vietnam. In fact, the only decoration he lists is the National Defense Service Medal, which was awarded to everyone who served his country during a given period of time." ....

Candidate Harkin Stretches the Truth
Vietnam isn't the only instance.

by JAMES M. PERRY

(Editor's note: This news article appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Dec. 26, 1991.)

WASHINGTON--If running for president is a game of truth or consequences, then a lot of Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin's critics would like to see him face the consequences.

Already in the presidential campaign, the Iowa lawmaker has found himself accused of misleading reporters about the troubles of his deaf brother. In addition, the budgetary mathematics he weaves into his basic stump speech have been challenged on network television. And allegations about Mr. Harkin's truthfulness extend back well before the current campaign, back to his claims that he was a combat pilot in Vietnam. ....

.Noted in Burkett's book, STOLEN VALOR

"...served as a ferry pilot stationed in Atsugi, Japan, flying aircraft to be repaired from Atsugi to the Philipinnes ...He finally conceded he had not flown combat air patrols in Vietnam and began describing himself as a Vietnam ERA vet...."

I would like to inform you that even after writing an apology letter and such, Mr .Harrell continues to claim military training and still wears uniforms with medals and ribbons that he has not earned. He claims recon, and raider. Please check on this as us fellow REAL veterans are getting quite offended by his talk and actions. He is currently living in Davenport, FL.,

----------------
Around the first part of this year you had a young man named Anthony Harrell who was portraying himself as many things; A Marine, a POW, a RANGER.  I understand that he sent in an apology letter saying that he would never do this again.  Well, he seems to be back up to his old tricks.  He has tried to tell many he is a RANGER, a RAIDER, has had all types of military training, and missed out of going to Iraq by only a day with his SCSF unit.

He is portraying himself as a combat veteran, up to and including trying to get a sponsorship for his Airsoft Team under these false pretenses.  His numerous Myspace pages include RANGER logos, as well as his Airsoft uniform with military rank insignias, and medals and awards he has supposedly received.  I feel that his remorse was false and he will continue to use the US military as his link to any and everything he can get..

====================================================
I never claim ANY combat exp. I never claimed Ranger.

look, just because "SOMEONE" e-mails you and Tell's you someone said something is hear-say and pretty much non-existent  It is not a basis for any type of investigation ,as for as the apology letter i personally never wrote one you Mrs Schantag wrote that on my behalf i signed the letter just to clear my name. Now i am willing to send you my orders for SCSG Raider school at that point i wish all false statements please be removed from your website,if you do not want to that is fine too, i have all my certificate's and paper work if i am questioned about i have my proof.

FORT WHITE — Gary Harris, a businessman in Fort White, said he erred when he gave false statements about his military history to the media....

Harris said he misspoke when he claimed to have earned two Bronze Stars during an interview with the Lake City Reporter earlier this year.

He also never served in Iraq or Afghanistan, he said, although he had made that claim to a reporter.

I am Bryan Hanks, the managing editor of the Kinston Free Press ... and I am humiliated and embarrassed that we published this story. There are no acceptable explanations or excuses, so I will offer none.

I can tell you this, though: we are working our asses off to reveal everything about this "man" and his ludicrous claims. We are hoping to have an article in Thursday's edition of The Free Press, but you can believe this time we will have all our T's crossed and I's dotted.

And I'd like to add this: the writer of the story, Jane Moon, is as embarrassed and humiliated as I. She is deeply sorry to you, the brave men and women this man attempted to mimic, for the hurt this article caused.

If you'd like to contact me personally, please feel free to call me at 252-559-1074 or email me at bhanks@freedomenc.com. I'd love to talk to you.

Again -- please accept my apology for this. We are doing everything in our power to right this terrible wrong.

I am a man who made a stupid mistake. I cannot apologize enough for the disgrace I have caused. The story is not true. And I have no excuse to offer, there isn't one good enough. I understand everyone's anger at me and it is deserved. I want to apologize to all the men and women who have served and still serve, a foolish and unnecessary decision made out of selfishness. I can only offer this apology and take my consequences as the come, I will. I apologize to my Wife and my employer. Let me suffer the punishment, not them. Again, sorry is not enough to decsribe how I feel. I am not sorry for getting caught, it was time for it to end, just sorry for the pain an disgrace I have caused so many others and to my on service. I apologize to the City of kinston and the Free Press, they were deceived and are not at fault, let this city recover and the good people here live in peace. God forgive me and I am truly sorry. for this.

There's a problem on his records.

The summary shows BSM w/V (Bronze Star Medal with Valor) but the certificate doesn't state Valor.  Looks to me like someone doctored or errored the records.  The BSM is given in a combat area similar to an ARCOM, for doing great non-heroic things.  Looks like the BSM certificate as posted in his file is pretty generic - I bet that FA Natl Guard unit awarded themselves BSMs all around.

Having 4 Army Achievement Medals and 5 Army Commendation Medals but only making SGT E5 in the ten total years, plus Airborne and Air Assault School is very fishy.  That's a LOT of awards.

Finally the SWASM with 3BSS = three bronze service stars.  He would have had to participate in all three campaigns.  Not impossible, but that has to be a pretty small population that qualifies for three.  He would have been there for Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and them the Cease-Fire campaign (that's where I got mine).  His active duty time ended in March 91, perhaps his NG unit redeployed but I seriously doubt it.

"Bronze stars are worn on the ribbon to indicate campaign participation by the service member. Three campaigns have been designated - - "DEFENSE OF SAUDI ARABIA" for the period 2 August 1990 through 16 January 1991, "LIBERATION AND DEFENSE OF KUWAIT" for the period 17 January 1991 through 11 April 1991, and "SOUTHWEST ASIA CEASE- FIRE" for the period 12 April 1991 through 30 November 1995."

He referred to being trained "one shot, one kill".  Hundreds of missions and kills.  Being dropped into Hanoi with 2 others, each with a 'high value" target.  The "triangulating" to be picked up.  He rescued one before he was "pulled apart" by the "gooks".  Other two were shot and he carried them to "The Jolly Green Giant".    He referred to the minigun on the helicopter as a Gatling gun called "Puff , the Magic  Dragon".   He claims he received the Silver Star for this.  Other questionable comments were that the minigun shot a .50 cal bullet, and the gun he used to kill people broke down into a case had 3 parts, the infrared scope mounted with 3 wing nuts and shot .50 cal. He claims it made very little sound and had little kick.   He also made a claim that he had a piece of shrapnel "in his ear' for over 20 years and the doc told him when it was removed it was only "inches from his brain" and he could have died at any moment.

To Whom it May Concern,
Geoffery Harrison spoke to me on the telephone and in person when he told me that he was a Navy Seal before he became an attorney. He spoke in great detail of his training and/or placement in South America. This was several years ago and the details of some of his exploits are forgotten but I do remember definitively that he stated he was a former U.S. Navy Seal.

Emacs!

Socnet also confirmed he was not a SEAL.
===============================

I greatly appreciate your interest in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams, and your search for the TRUTH. Before answering your questions I must make clear that I am a private individual, not affiliated with the US Dept. of Defense or any other government organization. My efforts to expose SEAL imposters are performed as a service to the public, and in honor of my fallen SEAL Teammates… men who truly earned the right to the title “US NAVY SEAL” but who are no longer able to stand forward in defense of their honor, their reputations, and their TEAMs.

If the name you provided is spelled correctly, I do NOT find a listing in the SEAL Database (SEAL Teams and predecessor units from 1943 to the Present Day) for anyone named Benjamin Geoffrey Harrison. I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names with similar pronunciations without finding any that appear to be applicable.

Unless he has undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for which there would be evidence in the form of court documentation) since his claimed participation in SEAL training, and based upon the information you have provided, I can state conclusively that Benjamin Geoffrey Harrison has NEVER COMPLETED SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL, a Navy UDT “Frogman”, a member of any Naval Combat Demolition Unit (NCDU), or a member of the Naval Amphibious Scouts & Raiders (S&R).

When members of the Naval Special Warfare community meet others who claim similar service, but whom they do not recognize, there is a conversational exchange of information that establishes the bona fides of each to the other. There is no set formula for this exchange, nor for the information that is exchanged, but it ALWAYS takes place, and the REAL Naval Special Warfare members can ALWAYS spot an imposter as a result of this exchange. If Mr. Benjamin Geoffrey Harrison persists in insisting that his SEAL claims are legitimate, I might suggest that you ask him these questions:

-Since there is no listing in the SEAL Database for the name you are currently using, WHAT NAME DID YOU USE during SEAL training?
-What was his Training Class Number? (No SEAL ever forgets his class number, and there are no secret classes)?
-Where did his training take place? (Training has been conducted at several locations over the years; different portions in different places)?
-When did he graduate from SEAL training? (i.e. a specific graduation DAY/DATE)?
-What were his Primary and Secondary Naval Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes, or what was his Naval Officer Billet Code (NOBC)?
-Which SEAL Team(s) did you serve on, and when?

The answers to those questions are totally UNCLASSIFIED, and every real SEAL will gladly provide that substantiating information upon request.

Before any classified operations may be undertaken as a SEAL Operator, a man must first successfully complete the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training program and then the follow-on secondary training program. The names of all those who successfully graduate from that training program sequence are compiled in the SEAL database.

I strongly recommend that you obtain a formal/official US NAVY statement regarding Mr. Benjamin Geoffrey Harrison's claimed SEAL credentials. To do so you may contact the PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE at the NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE COMMAND in San Diego by calling (619) 522-2823, or you may contact the FOIA COORDINATOR at the NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE COMMAND in San Diego, California, and submit a formal FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT inquiry in writing addressed to:

Commander
Naval Special Warfare Command
FOIA Coordinator
2000 Trident Way
San Diego, CA 92155

Thank you again for your concern in this matter, and for your assistance in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams. If I can be of any further assistance to you in this matter, please contact me at your convenience.

Respectfully, Don Shipley BUD/S 131, SEAL Team ONE, SEAL Team TWO.

HART, KENNETH E. 06/2008 . Claims  SEAL. Stated he was stabbed in the hip during combat. Claims class 224.
.... Alas, it would appear that you’ve got yourself another poseur. There are only two (2) men with the last name HART listed in the entirety of the SEAL Database (end of WWII to the present day); one of them graduated from training in 1979 and the other in 1994. Neither of those two men has either the first name KENNETH or the middle initial “E”. My formal statement of findings in this matter is as follows:

Unless he has undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for which there would be court documentation) since his claimed service with the SEAL Teams, and based upon the information you have provided, I can state conclusively that KENNETH E. HART has NEVER completed SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a US Navy SEAL or UDT “Frogman”.

I have examined the graduation roster for the BUD/S class which he claims (224) as well as the classes immediately before and after, and there is no indication of his name or any which might result from variations in spelling or pronunciation. It also appears that NONE of that claimed class (224) were initially assigned to SEAL Team THREE. .......
