Top left is plaque reading Sgt Major CJ Bass
Special Forces 1965-1985. Centerpiece is photo of some ceremony
apparently take at the museum.
==================================
When I got home, I received a telephone call
from Bass - ....... The conversation was cordial and Bass told me
that Matthews had contacted him with my concerns. He then went on
to say that he had only been back in Houston for about 5 years and had
lived in Los Angeles for the preceding years. He said he had been
a member of the VFW and also the American Legion there. Had joined
a Special Forces association in California....
Said that he had been at Benning gone through
airborne training, ranger training (but hadn't completed Ranger school)
then had gone to Ft Bragg where he qualified for Special Forces.
I asked him when he had been at Benning
(because I was at Benning in 1966 prior to going to Vietnam) and he
responded that he was there 64-65.
Had gone to Vietnam and was in a Special
Forces B team in the I Corp, had only been in a few months then
transferred to the 82d Airborne, had also been in 1st of 5th.
Retired after 20 years.
He told me that he was going to give
xxxxxxxxxxxxx a copy of his DD214 and I asked if he had any problem with
me also seeing a copy - he said no.
So that's about it and it still doesn't smell
right to me the citation is particularly smelly - I think the only way
we will find out for sure is to get the official records from St Louis.

BATES, DAVID ANDERSON |

Columbia, SC |
David Anderson Bates states on his Facebook account that he now
resides in Lexington, SC. He has also lived in Blythewood, SC.
He works for a company called "Two Men And A Truck." Claims he
was in the Marines, and had been an 0311 and a Scout Sniper. In
one of the attached pics, you can see the tattoos on his left
arm, which are Marine-related. David had many "Scout Sniper"
stickers on his car and his Marine-related tattoos covered
both arms, and part of his upper body.
David would wear his pixelated camouflage uniform around town.
He kept up this lie about himself for 5+ years. He had, in fact
been kicked out in boot camp at PI. David claimed to be a
drill instructor at Parris Island. David also claimed to
have been awarded a Purple Heart.
Despite the fact his cover was blown, his uncle continued to
keep pictures of David on his Facebook page, (uncle is in
wheelchair, David in pixelated cammies with what appears to be a
fake M-16). The third pic is from his intro page on Facebook,
and shows him with a goatee.....

Claims that he received two Purple Hearts, and several other medals with

kills in Iraq and that he was a team leader with 3rd Bat. |
Negative. If
this kid was here for 8 years…..I would have known him! His claims of 2
purple hearts aren’t projected on the Purple Heart plaque in the hall
downstairs.
I have asked all three of my PSGs covering A,B,and C companies all which
align with his arrival and would have been peers with this kid none of
them know him.
I guess we would have to ask this Hero, what company and who his leaders
were because we really need to document some of his heroism for our
archives. He may have been here but I am willing to bet it was for the

Again…a perfect example of watch what you say because it is a small

PREVIOUSLY LISTED AS A PHONY SEAL AT VeriSEAL.
2005 - The subject Manuel Christopher Becerra aka Christopher
M. Avigliano (That's the name he used in portraying himself as a
Seal...) He portrayed himself as a Navy Seal Commander,
having been in the Navy for 15 years. He also claimed to have
served in Desert Storm, as well as in Panama. He claimed to be
receiving the Naval Cross for his service in saving his team members
in Panama when Noriega basically ambushed the Seal Teams. The
man is quite versed in the SEALS. At this time he is in the
Hutchins State Jail, in Dallas Texas, he has been convicted of
Parole Violation, Felony theft and other State Charges. The
TDCJ Prisoner # is
696097 for Becerra, Manuel Christopher. This man knew so much
about the SEALS and would talk about the different tactics in order
to hurt or kill someone. He has a very short temper and would
carry a baseball bat around.
2009 - Claims he was a member of the San Antonio PD - denied
by SAPD.
\03/2010
- The individual you list as Manuel Becerra aka Christopher M.
Avigliano on your web site is out of jail and operating in San
Antonio. He is using the name Mike Becerr, one of the
aliases by which he is known by police. He is again claiming
to be a former Navy Seal Commander and recipient of the Navy
Cross. He makes this claim in writing in his profile on www.seniorpeoplemeet.com.
The two attached photos, and several others, are displayed in his
profile on the same web site. He is using the same story
detailed on your web site as part of his "legend" when
apparently attempting to defraud unsuspecting single senior women.
This man has a criminal record, and is not a widower as he holds
himself out to be--he's been married multiple times and has been
prosecuted by the State of Texas for non-payment of child support,
as well as fraud, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft,
forgery, and misuse of a credit/debit card.
|
2005 - Thanks for checking with us - we greatly appreciate your
interest in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams.
We do NOT have a listing in our database for anyone named Manuel
Christopher Becerra OR Christopher M. Avigliano. In fact, NEITHER of
those last names appear anywhere in our database of nearly 10,000
names.
Unless he has undertaken a legal name change, I can state
conclusively that Becerra/Avigliano has NEVER completed SEAL
training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL....

which also makes me question his claim of being a Navy SEAL with 4

From NASA's files, the following personnel were the assigned
as recovery
"Frogmen" for Apollo 14:
LTJG Robert R. Rohrback, Officer in Charge
LTJG Fred Schmitt, Swim I Team Leader
EM1 Michael Bennett, Swim I Team Member
HM1 Thomas Holmes, Swim I Team Member
LTJG Michael Slagle, Swim II Team Leader
YN3 Rudy Davis, Swim II Team Member
SN Larry Faller, Swim II Team Member
I never found Beeker's name assigned as a recovery Frogman.

Actual records |
I
greatly appreciate your interest in upholding the honor of the
US Navy SEAL Teams, and your search for the TRUTH. Before
answering your questions I must make clear that I am a private
individual, not affiliated with the US Dept. of Defense or any
other government organization. My efforts to expose SEAL
imposters are performed as a service to the public, and in honor
of my fallen SEAL Teammates… men who truly earned the right to
the title “US NAVY SEAL” but who are no longer able to stand
forward in defense of their honor, their reputations, and their
TEAMs.
If the name you provided is
spelled correctly, I do NOT
find a listing in the SEAL Database (SEAL Teams and predecessor
units from1943 to the Present Day) for anyone named
ANDREW
A. BEEKER.
I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names
with similar pronunciations without finding any that appear to
be applicable.
Unless he had undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name
change (an action for which there would be evidence in the form
of court documentation) since his claimed participation in SEAL
training, and based upon the information you have provided,
I can state conclusively that
ANDREW A. BEEKER has NEVER COMPLETED SEAL training, and he is
not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL, a Navy UDT “Frogman”, a
member of any Naval Combat Demolition Unit (NCDU), or a member
of the Naval Amphibious Scouts & Raiders (S&R).
Before any
classified operations may be undertaken as a SEAL Operator, a
man must first successfully complete the Basic Underwater
Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training program and then the follow-on
secondary training program. The names of all those who
successfully graduate from that training program sequence are
compiled in the SEAL database. Later participation in classified
operations has no impact on whether or not a person is listed as
a graduate of the training program. There are records of every
man who has qualified for the title of “SEAL”; there have been
and will continue to be secret missions, but there are NO secret
SEALs.
Once again I
must stress that although I am a US Navy veteran, and a former
SEAL, I am a civilian performing in an entirely unofficial role.
I strongly recommend that you obtain a formal/official US NAVY
statement regarding Mr.
ANDREW A. BEEKER’s claimed SEAL credentials. To do so
you may contact the PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE at the NAVAL SPECIAL
WARFARE COMMAND in San Diego by calling (619) 522-2823, or you
may contact the FOIA COORDINATOR at the NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE
COMMAND in San Diego, California, and submit a formal FREEDOM OF
INFORMATION ACT inquiry in writing addressed to:
Commander
Naval Special
Warfare Command
FOIA Coordinator
2000 Trident Way
San Diego, CA
92155
One final note… BEEKER’s
family PAID to have that obituary published. Obits are no
longer “free of charge” anywhere in America and they have
the same status as an advertisement. The news organizations
no longer research or verify any claims made… the family
pays for the space, so they get to say whatever they want
and write whatever they want, so long as it doesn’t violate
any laws or contain slander or defamatory statements. The
family wrote what he told them while he was alive. Informing
them of the truth will simply fall on deaf ears, and you
will be chastised and ill-treated if you attempt to approach
this situation while they are grieving.
Thank you again for your concern in this matter, and for
your assistance in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL
Teams. If I can be of any further assistance to you in this
matter, please contact me at your convenience.

If the name you provided is

RONALD D (or)

I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names

to be applicable. In point of fact neither the
name BENSKEN
nor anything remotely similar in spelling or pronunciation
appears anywhere among the 17,300+ entries in the SEAL
Database.
Unless he has
undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an
action for which there would be evidence in the form of

When members of the
Naval Special Warfare community meet others who claim
similar service, but whom they do not recognize, there is a
conversational exchange of information that establishes the
bona fides of each to the other. There is no set formula for
this exchange, nor for the information that is exchanged,
but it ALWAYS takes place, and the REAL Naval Special
Warfare members can ALWAYS spot an imposter as a result of
this exchange. If Mr.
BENSKEN
persists in insisting that his SEAL claims are legitimate, I
might suggest that you ask him these questions:
-Since there is no listing in the SEAL Database for the name
you are currently using,
WHAT NAME DID YOU USE during SEAL training?
-What
was his Training
Class Number?
(No SEAL ever forgets his class number, and there are no
secret classes)?
-Where
did his training take place? (Training has been conducted at
several locations over the years; different portions in
different places)?
-When
did he graduate from SEAL training? (i.e. a specific
graduation DAY/DATE)?
-What
were his Primary and Secondary Naval Enlisted Classification
(NEC) codes, or what was his Naval Officer Billet Code (NOBC)?
-Which
SEAL Team(s) did you serve on, and when?
The answers to those
questions are totally UNCLASSIFIED, and every real SEAL will
gladly provide that substantiating information upon request.
Before
any classified operations may be undertaken as a SEAL

would also note that Mr. BENTON
has told you that he served as a Navy SEAL for ELEVEN (11) years…
but BUD/S Class 237 graduated from
training in 2001, just a few months more than 8 years ago
as of today (21 Nov 2009). Not only is his name NOT
ON THE CLASS 237 ROSTER, but he didn’t even know when the
class graduated from training!
Mr.
BENTON’s choice of
claiming BUD/S class 237 is certainly not unique… he’s one of
hundreds who have falsely claimed membership in that specific BUD/S
class. SEAL imposters are particularly prone to claim membership in
classes that have been described in some detail in print or on TV as
these venues provide them with details about training which they can
later recite to others as “first hand” experiences. Additionally,
many imposters appear to believe that claiming membership in a class
which has received such a measure of notoriety will give them some
measure of ‘celebrity’ status. As noted in my original response to
you, before any classified operations may be undertaken as a SEAL
Operator, a man must first successfully complete the totally
unclassified BUD/S Training program and the follow-on secondary
training program; the names of all those who successfully graduate
from that training program are compiled in the SEAL database. Later
participation in classified operations has no impact on whether or not
a person is listed as a graduate of the training program. There are
records of every man who has qualified for the title of “SEAL”;
there have been and will continue to be secret missions, but there are
NO secret SEALs… we know them all.
As
for public knowledge about SEAL training, the following brief list
includes more recent BUD/S class numbers which are widely-claimed by
SEAL imposters:
-Class
237 – one of the BUD/S
classes that are described in print in a book entitled THE FINISHING
SCHOOL by real Navy SEAL, Dick Couch.
-Class
228 – the BUD/S class
described in detail in Dick Couch’s book THE WARRIOR ELITE.
-Class
234 – the BUD/S Class
described/portrayed undergoing BUD/S training in a 3-part TV series
which is regularly re-broadcast on the Military Channel and the
History Channel.
May
I suggest that you take copies of this email, along with copies of my
original email, and post them throughout your work place so that
others who have heard Mr. BENTON’s
false SEAL claims will know the truth? You might consider posting
copies in the WOMEN’S RESTROOM as I doubt Mr. BENTON
would find his way in there to remove it from the wall. You might also
consider providing copies to your firm’s Human Resources Department.
If Mr. BENTON has been
so incautious as to include his false SEAL claims in his Job
Application or his Resume, then he would very likely be subject to
termination for falsification of his credentials.
If
I can be of any further assistance to you or to your employer in this
matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your
assistance in upholding the honor and reputation of the US Navy SEAL
Teams.

What a hoot, I just watched Judge Joe Brown on TV and the claiment
declared he was a Navy SEAL, and then a LT Col in the Air Force.
Prior to that he was an Army private. He is from New York.
The judge Joe Brown asked him for his challenge coin of course he did
not have one and also was asked about what SEAL team he was with and
of course he stumbled like a fool.
|
As
was obvious to you, to the Judge on the show, and probably to every
other viewer and listener in the TV ‘courtroom’, the man’s claims
of being a Navy SEAL were totally bogus. Of all his claims, the “Army
Private” is probably the most accurate, if he actually served in the
military in any capacity. Despite it being an obvious falsehood, I did
check the SEAL database just to be sure. I did
NOT find a listing in the SEAL database for anyone named Donald
“Donnie” Bernstien. Be
aware that I have also examined possible alternate spellings
and/or similar pronunciations
(BERNSTEIN,
BERNSTEN,
etc). There is only one man in the entire SEAL database with the last
name “BERNSTEIN”…
and neither his first nor middle name is “Donald/Donnie”.
Unless he has
undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for
which there would be court documentation) since his claimed service with
the SEAL Teams, and based upon the information you have provided, I can
state conclusively that DONALD
“DONNIE” BERNSTIEN/BERNSTEIN has NEVER completed
SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a US Navy SEAL or UDT
“Frogman”. Please be aware that the SEAL database includes the names
of all men who served with the Underwater Demolition Teams
(“Frogmen”). Since 1983 when the UDTs were all re-commissioned as
SEAL Teams it has been the convention within the Naval Special Warfare
community to use the modern term “SEAL” when referring to all men
who ever served in any of the SEAL ‘precursor’ units.
Thank you for
your concern in this matter, and for your assistance in upholding the
honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams

Claims to be a Navy SEAL, having served in Bosnia.
Claims to have completed buds training.
Claims to have received the Bronze Star for Courage Under Fire.
Claims to have received Good Conduct Medal.
Claims the SF on discharge certificate stands for Special Forces.
Claims to have killed 2 men without using a weapon.

I've never seen a Bronze Star listed that way before.
I couldn't see the SF listing on the 214, I need new glasses, but on a
Navy form I would think SF stood for San Francisco.

Arizona man sentenced for false military claims
Nov. 30, 2010 03:37 PM
Associated Press
A former chaplain indicted in Arizona for making false claims about his
military honors and training has been sentenced to 60 months of
probation and ordered to pay about $28,000 in restitution......

District of Arizona

Former Chaplin Sentenced for Claiming False Military Honors
PHOENIX - Kurt Alan Bishop, 42, of Queen Creek, Ariz., was
sentenced by U.S. District
Judge Mary H. Murgia to 60 months of probation, ordered to pay
approximately $28,000 in
restitution, and ordered to perform 120 hours of community
service.
Bishop pleaded guilty on August 19, 2010, to charges of altering
his military records and
making false statements to the United States. As part of his
guilty plea, Bishop agreed to drop his
challenge to his military discharge status of "other than
honorable".
"The defendant falsely claimed a Bronze Star with Valor, a
Purple Heart, and claimed to be
an Army Ranger to bolster his Army service record, and then used
that false record to enter the
Arizona National Guard Chaplain Corps and obtain an increase in
pay and benefits," said U. S.
Attorney Dennis K. Burke. "We will protect the integrity and
honor of our military personnel who
truly earned these awards and will prosecute those who betray
the public's trust by falsely wearing
them."
Bishop was indicted earlier this year for making false claims
related to medals, decorations
and training he received during his 20 years in the military.
Bishop falsely claimed that he was
awarded some of the most prestigious medals and decorations,
including the Bronze Star with
Valor and Purple Heart, and that he received advanced combat
training, achieving the elite status
of an Army Ranger. Bishop wore imitations of the medals and
decorations on his Army service
uniforms during tours of active duty and for other official
activities. He was able to use his
position as a personnel specialist to alter his military records
to reflect some of these false claims.
Bishop relied on these false claims to become an officer in the
Arizona National Guard and to
enter the Chaplain Corps in 2006, resulting in an increase in
his military salary and benefits.
Bishop served as a Chaplain until his discharge earlier this
year.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the
U.S. Department of
Defense, Defense Criminal Investigative Service. The prosecution
was handled by Monica
Klapper, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix..

Claiming SPECIAL

Claims 5th SF, Major, 4 DSC, 5 Purple Hearts, 101st Airborne. Wears tan
TAM (not U.S. MILITARY ISSUE beret) with flash on it! Oak leaf (rank) is
not worn properly.
The "beret" which Bixler is pictured wearing
is in fact a British army "Tam O' shanter" also known as a
"Tos" it is the standard issue wear for enlisted & NCO
ranks in the Scottish Regiments of the Scottish Division of the
British Army, I used to wear one when I was in the Argyll &
Sutherland Highlanders. & The Glasgow & Strathclyde UOTC.
as such he has no right to wear the cap unless he served in one of the
proud Scottish regiments (Scots guards, Royal Scots, Royal Highland
Fusiliers, The Highland regiment, The Kings own Scottish Borders,
Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, the Scots Greys or attached corps
troops & UOTC/Territorial Army regiments). This cant be
mistaken for the Civilian version which is called a Balmoral and is
manufactured in black or blue cloth, Officers & Senior NCOS also
use a privately purchased military version of the balmoral cap for
everyday use.
So the questions are
1.Why is he wearing a British Army standard issue
OR/Junior NCO cap instead of Officer/Senior NCO private purchased cap
2 Which regiment does he claim a connection to?
