THOSE CLAIMING MEDAL OF HONOR
NOTE: In 1996 HLI Lordship Industries (at the time, the OFFICIAL USG contractor for the Medal of Honor) admitted selling THREE HUNDRED unauthorized medals for $75.00 each from 1991-1994. They were fined $80,000. NOT ALL of those medals have been recovered. Offenders in possession of an unauthorized medal can be arrested, fined (up to $10,000) and jailed (up to a year). It is the only military medal that CANNOT be bought, sold, bartered, traded, collected, auctioned, exchanged.... EVERY Medal of Honor is awarded by act of Congress. Less than 150 REAL Medal of Honor recipients are alive today.

SANDERS, LARRY 11/2009 . DON'T MISS THIS:    http://www.bullshido.org/Larry_Sanders

claims quoted from bullshido.org

He told me that he was formerly a member of the National Rifle Team. This coupled with his experience in martial arts and his ability to speak fluent Chinese made him a perfect fit for the Special Forces. He did not name a branch or unit. Apparently he operated in Cambodia, Laos, and Northern Vietnam…or in Dr. Sanders' words, "…everywhere we weren't." To me this implies that he was black ops and his missions weren't recorded or something.

He says he belonged to the Air Force (graduated high school at age 16, did a year of college, dropped out and went into the Air Force. Anyway.) While in the Air Force he trained Special Forces soldiers (I think he might have called them something else-- team members?) in the same martial art he was teaching that evening-- Nei Wai Chia (Nay-Wah-Shah)-- and people from the SAS in Britain and Israeli Army personnel. When I … probed for more information, he winked and said he couldn't say much more about that.

even more claims:

He served in Vietnam, Japan and Australia while in the Air Force. Was in Vietnam as a combat medic from 1968-1969.

Was awarded a Purple Heart for being (!!!!) shot and stabbed by the Viet Cong. He was on patrol in the field, stationed in Cam Ranh Bay, and was about 100m away from the rest of his group "when a bunch of Viet Cong saw me and decided to take out the medic. Only they didn't want to shoot because that would bring the rest of my guys down on them, so they just ran up to me and stabbed me here [indicates lower right quadrant of abdomen] and tried to beat me to death, but it didn't work, so they had to shoot me, which did bring up the rest of my guys. In fact the knife was still sticking out of my belly and one of the guys wanted to pull it out, but I wouldn't let him, and he wanted the knife, but I didn't give it to him." I asked if he had it still and he said yes.

Airman recounts a time when blacks fought to become part of military

Arthur Saunders (left), a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, signs an autograph at Wayne College for 7-year-old Tony Weathers, a student at Marlington Elementary School in Alliance. Tony’s parents let him out of school for the day so he could hear Saunders’ speech, believing it would have a future impact on their child’s life.

By PAUL LOCHER

Staff Writer

ORRVILLE -- The University of Akron Wayne College was packed to capacity to see a real American hero: Arthur Saunders.

Arthur Saunders?

At age 87, Saunders is one of the last of the Tuskegee Airmen, an all African-American pursuit squadron based in Tuskegee, Ala., whose members became the heroes of the skies over Germany during World War II -- despite the best efforts of the U.S. military to prevent that from happening.

Wednesday's program, titled "The Tuskegee Airmen: One of the Most Remarkable Groups of Individuals in American History," was part of the college's Black History Month activities.

It was presented by Roger Cram, director of special projects and community relations for Hiram College. Cram teaches a course that was developed from his research into the ideals and problem-solving abilities of the 1940s Tuskegee Airmen.

Cram characterized the story of the Tuskegee Airmen as "remarkable and inspiring; but it's also kind of sad."

Before 1940, African-Americans were barred from flying for the U.S. military. However, civil rights organizations and the black press exerted pressure that resulted in the formation of a black pursuit squadron. The Tuskegee program became the focus of African-American aviation during World War II and paved the way for full integration of the U.S. military.

Saunders served as an armaments engineer on a B-29 and became the first licensed black architect in Ohio.

He said the Airmen "saw value in a country that saw no value in them."

"They had to fight for the right to fight, and that's what makes them so remarkable," Saunders said. "They had to fight for the right to protect this country, and that has never happened before."

Cram noted the first push to allow blacks to fly planes came during the third term of President Franklin Roosevelt when his wife, Eleanor, secretly traveled to Tuskegee, Ala., to take a flight with a self-taught black pilot named Alfred Anderson in a Piper Cub. As a result of that, the Tuskegee Flying School eventually was approved for black pilots.

Cram said the Tuskegee Airmen were successful because "they thought of an obstacle as a wonderful opportunity for growth. They sought out obstacles."

After several months of practicing on small targets in rural Alabama, Cram said, "They were awesome. They were ready to be unleashed." In their first engagement against 20 German aircraft, the Airmen shot down 10 Nazi planes and sustained no losses.

Moved to a secret air base in Ramitelli, Italy, the Airmen while on patrol encountered a German destroyer and did the near-impossible feat of sinking it with only a machine gun by targeting the powder magazine below decks.

After that the Tuskegee Airmen began escorting bombers over Germany, painting the tails of their P-40 War Hawks red so that they could be identified. During the course of a year, Cram said, the Airmen escorted 15,583 bombers on 200 missions with no losses.

Nevertheless, Cram noted, the Airmen were barred from officers clubs, and when 101 of the airmen tried to enter a club to purchase a soda, the entire unit was arrested, charged with failure to obey a commanding officer and confined for 30 days under heavy armed guard. He said the unit was finally pardoned in 1995 by President Bill Clinton.

He said unlike other units, the Tuskegee Airmen were never relieved and were never allowed to go home. Those who qualified for medals didn't receive them for 50 years or more.

Saunders, a Yale graduate, said his step-father had been one of the famous "Buffalo Soldiers" on the plains, protecting white settlers traveling west in wagon trains. He said he believes books on American history are skewed and often fail to convey a true picture of what happened.

"It is my hope history books will start to turn around and say what really happened," said Saunders before he was given a standing ovation.

Reporter Paul Locher can be reached at 330-682-2055, or e-mail at plocher@the-daily-record.com.

According to Ted Johnson's database, Arthur Saunders had SO 176, and arrived in Lockbourne on 10 Aug 1947...he probably has never set foot in Tuskegee!!! He was NOT a pilot, navigator or bombardier!!!  Ron Brewington

P.S. He is a member of the North Coast Chapter...

I greatly appreciate your interest in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams, and your search for the TRUTH. Before answering your questions I must make clear that I am a private individual, not affiliated with the US Dept. of Defense or any other government organization. My efforts to expose SEAL imposters are performed as a service to the public, and in honor of my SEAL Teammates who gave their lives in service to our nation… men who truly earned the right to the title “US NAVY SEAL” but who are no longer able to stand forward in defense of their honor, their reputations, and their TEAMs.

I must say that I am saddened to hear that you have discovered this duplicity in your fiancé; I wish I had better news for you, but unfortunately I do not. If the name you provided is spelled correctly, I do NOT find a listing in the SEAL Database (end of WWII to the Present Day) for anyone named LANCE ERIC SCHULER. I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names with similar pronunciations without finding any that might be applicable. There is only one (1) man with the last name “SCHULER” listed in the SEAL Database; that man completed his training in 1952 – some eight (8) years before LANCE ERIC SCHULER was born.

Unless he has undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for which there would be evidence in the form of court documentation) since his claimed attendance at BUD/S training, and based upon the information you have provided, I can state conclusively that LANCE ERIC SCHULER has NEVER COMPLETED SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL or a Navy UDT “Frogman”.

When members of the Naval Special Warfare community meet others who claim similar service, but whom they do not recognize, there is a conversational exchange of information that establishes the bona fides of each to the other. There is no set formula for this exchange, nor for the information that is exchanged, but it ALWAYS takes place, and the REAL Naval Special Warfare members can ALWAYS spot a phony as a result of this exchange. You indicate that you have a text of some sort in which Mr. SCHULER admits to making false SEAL claims. I must presume that you have sent this inquiry because Mr. SCHULER is once more offering those false SEAL claims despite his earlier recantations. If you wish to make him very aware of the fact that you know the truth of the matter, I might suggest that you to ask Mr. SCHULER these questions:

(1) Since there is no listing in the SEAL Database for the name you are currently using, WHAT NAME DID YOU USE during SEAL training?

(2) What was his BUD/S Class Number? (NB: No SEAL ever forgets the class number he shouted all day long, every day, for 6 months)

(3) Where did his training take place? (NB: Training has been conducted at several locations over the years; different portions in different places)

(4) When did he graduate from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training? (i.e. a specific graduation DATE)

There are many other questions which could be asked to further establish the level of veracity or untruth regarding his claims, such as asking for the names of other members of his graduating class, but those basic questions are absolutes. The answers to those questions are totally UNCLASSIFIED, and every real SEAL will gladly provide that substantiating information upon request. If Mr. SCHULER has returned to his previously offered story line about being a SEAL, he will very likely insist that the information is either classified or sensitive and cannot be provided. This response, of course, is pure hockum.

I might suggest that you also ask Mr. SCHULER to specifically identify WHICH SEAL Team(s) he served on, and when. I am in direct contact with several hundred of my SEAL Teammates whose collective experience covers virtually all time periods from the Korean War to the present; I can quickly contact those individuals to verify any specific names, events, or other claims offered by Mr. SCHULER. If he feels that his name has somehow been mistakenly omitted from the SEAL records, I’d be pleased to speak with him and hear details of his service which would serve to validate his claims. The Director of the Naval Special Warfare Archives – a close personal friend and SEAL Teammate – is only a phone call away and standing by to amend the records if this is ever found to be true. However, I estimate that I’ve made the same offer to more than 5,000 SEAL imposters in the last eight years, and none of them ever turned out to be a valid SEAL.

No one gets to the SEAL Teams without first completing BUD/S Training. There are records of every man who has qualified for the title of “SEAL”; there have been and will continue to be secret missions, but there are NO secret SEALs… we know them all.

Thank you again for your concern in this matter, and for your assistance in upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams. Depending on the specifics of his actions and claims, Mr. SCHULER may have crossed the line from braggadocio and be prosecutable under the STOLEN VALOR ACT of 2005. As noted in my opening paragraph, I am a private individual and am in no way affiliated with the US Department of Defense or the US government. Despite any reports you may make/send to me regarding Mr. SCHULER’s false SEAL claims, any such information which I might pass along to the federal authorities (FBI, DCIS) in this matter would be classified as “hearsay” and therefore inadmissible in a court of law. The responsibility for reporting the individual named in your inquiry to the federal authorities as a military imposter rests with you and with anyone else who may have personally heard or received these claims from the individual himself. Whether or not you decide to report him to the federal authorities is entirely up to you, but at least you now know the truth regarding his bogus claims.

I’m certain that whatever you decide to do, you will need several witnesses who can attest to the accuracy of your report regarding Mr. SCHULER’s conduct and his claims of being a SEAL. If I can be of any further assistance to you in this matter, please contact me at your convenience.

Man facing federal charges for allegedly impersonating Marine

WEST BEND, Wis. A man accused of impersonating a Marine Corps officer is facing federal charges.
Michael Schuster is well known in veterans circles in West Bend, Wisconsin.
He's played taps at dozens of veterans' burials, wearing a Marine uniform with military decorations and medals. And he was the featured speaker at last year's Memorial Day observance.
The 52-year-old claimed to have served in Vietnam, achieving the rank of major.
But at least one veteran who served as a Marine Corps master gunnery sergeant in Vietnam was suspicious. Jim Krudwig noticed Schuster wore his medals and ribbons out of place. And he says Schuster saluted like he was in the Air Force.
Federal authorities investigated Schuster's claims and he was charged with wearing military decorations without authorization. The charge carries a maximum 100-thousand-dollar fine and a year in federal prison.

Attention reveals lie about WWII record

Post office legislation exposes veteran's fabrication

Irving Joseph Schwartz had a glorious Army career in World War II based on the achievements he listed with the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

His impressive résumé, along with his advocacy for veterans in Las Vegas, prompted the House on Sept. 27 to pass a bill naming a post office on Russell Road after him. Under the legislation, authored by Rep. Jon Porter and co-sponsored by Rep. Shelley Berkley, the building's new name would be "Private First Class Irving Joseph Schwartz Post Office."

But after a Review-Journal inquiry cast doubts on his record, Schwartz, 83, of Las Vegas, admitted to Porter's staff last week that he had fabricated most of his role in World War II. The valor medals he claimed, including the Bronze and Silver stars, had stood without question for most of his life.

"He was very sorry and remorseful, and didn't give an explanation why he's been doing it for 63 years," said Phil Speight, Porter's chief of staff.

Schwartz's story, as he told it, was one of heroism, participating in historic battles and becoming a leader among wounded combat veterans.

He gave only a brief comment for this story, saying the lies were "all an accident."

His best friend, Ron Krever, described him as man who has led a life of devotion to his fellow veterans.

Krever, a veteran himself, said Schwartz made a mistake when he fell in love as a young man, a mistake that "unfortunately lasted longer than the marriage."

He said Schwartz had lied about his age to the woman who became his first wife because she was seven years older. And, "like most men he wanted to impress her and so he embellished his military record," Krever wrote in a letter Tuesday.

Speight said Schwartz was the man Porter, R-Nev., and Berkley, D-Nev., went to when they were "looking for someone who could be recognized for working with the veterans in Southern Nevada." Some veterans suggested he would be a good candidate because of his work assisting Jewish war veterans and the homeless.

Schwartz, who was a national service officer last year for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, is also a former commander of the organization's Chapter 711 in Las Vegas. In 2004, he led a small group of Purple Heart recipients from Las Vegas to the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington.

Shortly after the initial post office bill was introduced on March 12, Schwartz sat for an interview that Porter conducted for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.

"And then the Silver Star. Tell us about that," Porter says to Schwartz in the taped interview.

"Ah. They gave me that. I was surprised to get it. ... You try to save your guys and ... whatever it takes to do it you do it, you understand," Schwartz replied, describing how he saved his comrades by throwing grenades in enemy bunkers.

The basis for Porter's interview was a biography Schwartz had submitted to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Schwartz claimed he had jumped into Normandy, France, six days before the D-Day invasion with a select group of paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division's 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

And according to that self-prepared biography and from what he told others, he was wounded three times in different combat engagements. Along with the Silver Star, he said he received three Purple Hearts. He also said he served in the Pacific campaign in addition to the European theater.

Finally, he wrote on a data sheet for the history project interview that he served in Company A of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment and received a Combat Infantryman Badge.

But as public attention about him grew in recent months, he also drew notice from independent researchers who began checking into his record.

The biography he submitted to the Military Order of the Purple Heart quickly became suspect.

One military historian says it would have been impossible for Schwartz to have jumped into France six days before D-Day.

The historian, Brian Siddall, of Airborne in Normandy Research, said in e-mails to the Review-Journal that a photograph of pathfinders that accompanied Schwartz's biography on the Purple Heart organization's Web site doesn't contain anyone named Irving Joseph Schwartz. And the photo isn't of Schwartz's claimed unit, the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

Instead, Siddall said, the photograph is that of pathfinders from the 2nd Battalion of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The man with the arrow above him, denoted as, "Joe," is not Schwartz but one of five soldiers in the photograph who couldn't be positively identified.

"We just don't know which name goes to which face," Siddall said.

During his research and in what appears to be a coincidence, Siddall found there is another World War II veteran named Irving Schwartz in the Las Vegas Valley who received a Silver Star medal for gallantry in action near Bliesbrucken, Germany, in February 1945.

That man, Irving I. Schwartz, 83, of Henderson, told the Review-Journal last month that the types of honors that require congressional action "are for people who have really done something big for their country."

There were other discrepancies with Irving Joseph Schwartz's story.

After contacting military history experts and researchers on World War II airborne soldiers and examining lists of paratroopers in the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, no record of Schwartz could be found in connection with the 82nd Airborne Division, the 504th regiment, or the 13,000 paratroopers in the Normandy invasion or any other World War II combat jumps.

Rather, an honorable discharge form containing Schwartz's serial number on record with the Department of Veterans Affairs shows he was a rifleman with the 357th Infantry Regiment. The regiment sailed to the Normandy coast, anchored off of Utah beach and waded ashore from landing crafts on June 8, 1944.

But Schwartz's discharge record shows he didn't arrive in the European Theater of Operations until December 1944, six months after the Normandy invasion began.

Regarding his Purple Hearts, Schwartz told Porter he was wounded in the knee in Sicily and grazed by a bullet in Normandy. He said he was wounded in Holland, but he gave no details of that incident because of what he called the bad memories it stirred.

But his discharge papers list only one Purple Heart, for being wounded in Belgium in January 1945, and a Good Conduct ribbon. No mention is made of a Silver Star or the Combat Infantryman Badge he claimed to have. Nor did he serve in the Pacific Campaign, according to the document. And there was no mention of a Bronze Star.

Schwartz applied for membership in the Military Order of the Purple Heart in 1979, listing that he earned a Purple Heart in December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge, regarded as one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. But Schwartz wasn't wounded until a month later, according to his discharge papers.

Cyril Kammeier, acting public relations director of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, said biographies appearing on the group's Web site are submitted by the veterans themselves and are not confirmed by the group.

Upon learning of Schwartz's disclosures last week, Kammeier said the embellished biography will be taken down from the site.

Under the Stolen Valor Act signed into law by President Bush in 2006, people who are caught lying about receiving military valor medals they never earned can be charged with a federal misdemeanor even if they have never been seen wearing such combat medals but have made false claims about having them.

Impersonators can be fined up to $5,000 and imprisoned up to six months for falsely claiming to have received an armed services decoration.

Penalties increase for those who claim to have received the Distinguished Service Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Navy Cross, the Silver Star, the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor.

However, sentences for violating the Stolen Valor Act typically range from community service to probation.

Mary Schantag of the POW Network, a nonprofit veterans watchdog group that researches military records of servicemen suspected of claiming awards they did not earn, faults members of Congress for not doing their homework on Schwartz's service record before agreeing to name a post office after him.

"They didn't do due diligence to vet this man's military records whatsoever," Schantag said. "If you can't verify, why are you going ahead based on somebody's fairy tale?"

Speight confirmed that Porter, who has since lost his bid for re-election, did not check Schwartz's claimed military honors before sponsoring the legislation. The staff, Speight said, relied on information from the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

As for the post office bill, Speight said Porter will clarify the congressional record and rescind the legislation by requesting that the Senate not move it forward.

Doug Sterner, a military historian in Colorado who specializes in documenting awards of valor, said problems caused by fake military heroes who seek unwarranted recognition and financial benefits can be avoided if Congress passes a bill next year by Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo.

The bill, he said, will call for a database accessible by members of Congress, the Department of Veterans Affairs and journalists to verify claims about medals of valor.

"You've got phonies getting post offices named after them, and the real heroes get lost in the shuffle," Sterner said.

Military records dispute hero status

GAFFNEY -- A Gaffney man who told reporters he was a Marine heroically rescued from a Cambodian POW camp in 1970 in fact served only 10 months in the Navy and was court-martialed, according to military records obtained by the Herald-Journal.
The copies of military records for 57-year-old Warren Brent Messer show that he enlisted in the Navy in October 1967 and received a special court martial for an unauthorized absence in August 1968. He was discharged ?under honorable conditions? -- which is different from an honorable discharge -- into the Naval Reserve later that month.
Messer said in an interview with the Daily Courier of Forest City, N.C., and two television stations that he was prisoner of war in Cambodia, barely hanging on to life at 80 pounds with broken feet and fingers before Ronnie Scroggs rescued him.

Vet Accused of Faking Paralysis

March 16, 2009
Spokesman-Review

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A federal judge has refused to dismiss charges against a 58-year-old Spokane man who is accused of pretending to be paralyzed and successfully collecting $1.5 million in monthly payments from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

But Senior Judge Justin Quackenbush on March 13 ordered separate trials for James M. Sebero, who is charged in the Eastern District of Washington and the District of Idaho with federal crimes related to the alleged fraud. It started in the mid-1970s, authorities say, when Sebero claimed he suffered a paralyzing injury while in the Air Force.

He is scheduled to stand trial in Spokane on April 6 on three counts of making false statements on documents he filled out to begin receiving VA disability payments.

The judge set June 15 as the date for Sebero's second trial, on 55 counts of wire fraud contained in an indictment returned last August by a federal grand jury in Idaho.

Sebero's attorney, Jim Parkins, unsuccessfully asked the court to dismiss the Idaho charges on the grounds the individual counts of wire fraud -- each pegged to a monthly VA check -- exceeded the five-year federal statute of limitations.

Sebero was given a 100 percent disability in March 1980 and continued to receive monthly VA checks until he was called for an examination at the VA Medical Center in Spokane in September 2007.

Parkins argued that any "scheme to defraud" on Sebero's part expired five years after he was given total disability in 1980.

"The only duty fell on the Veterans Administration, not on Mr. Sebero, to report a change in (his) condition," Parkins told the court.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Cook told the court that the government "doesn't have to establish a new (fraud) scheme with each and every payment."

The defense attorney asked the court to dismiss the charges filed in Eastern Washington on the grounds VA investigators violated physician-client privilege when they secretly videotaped Sebero's examination on Sept. 26, 2007, by Dr. Reed Rasmussen at the Spokane VA Medical Center.

His VA disability payments were immediately stopped after that examination.

Quackenbush denied both motions to dismiss the charges, saying physician-patient privilege doesn't exist in federal criminal cases.

Brother of Cairo native rescues many victims of Hurricane Katrina
By Amy Compney/City Editor

Sue Davis of Cairo is asking anyone and everyone to pray for the people that Hurricane Katrina has left stranded, hungry, thirsty and homeless. Her brother is one of them but he is alive and working as hard as he can to keep others alive as well.

Tom "Gator" Seefeldt, Davis' brother, lives in Biloxi, Mississippi. He is a 25 year veteran of the Navy, where he served as a SEAL, he is a veteran of Vietnam, has served in Somalia and Africa and has even spent time hunting alligators (hence the nickname) for the government. And although he's seen active combat and the terrible side of the human condition through his many years of work as a SEAL, when he got a call out to his sister two days ago, he said the devastation to his area was the worst he has ever seen.

"My brother is in Biloxi, right where it hit the hardest. My brother has been in service since straight out of high school; He's a Navy Seal and he's trained for survival. I know he's going to bring them all home, I know he is," she said.....

a man gets shot by a M-14 straight through the heart, (.308 caliber) looks at his wound before         collapsing straight down.... he's not a mover.

an American medic gets hit in the chest by what was probably a Russian 7.62x54mm Russian             sniper rifle and falls back before bouncing back up to his feet (thank god for ceramic body armor)     he obviously was a  mover.

conclution, in my opinion is that if the round is of sufficent mass, and it acually transfers it's             kinetic energy into it's target, such as an expanding bullet would, instead of going straight                 through the target, you are likely get SOME movement. kind of like cutting the strings on a             puppet, you only need a little oomph to get the puppet moving backwards. you don't need a                 75mm recoilless rifle."

O5/2008  Northwest Flight 587, 22 Dec 07, Minneapolis- Anchorage.  He was dressed in a set of dirty DCU's, which appeared to have a standard set of army insignia -  didn't take note of the unit patches as there was nothing there that jumped out at me, i.e. airborne, SF group patches, tabs, etc. , and no jump wings or other specialty badges.   Then noticed that  he had on a pair of civilian shoes, a civilian baseball cap, and appeared to be experimenting with a goatee.

I initially thought that he just had really bad fashion judgment or was trying to make some kind of political statement, but then he started talking loudly to anyone around him who would listen about how he had just gotten back from "the shit" in Iraq.  Before we had even pushed back from the gate everyone within about 3 or 4 rows, as well as the flight attendants, were fairly familiar with this guy's service record, which apparently included quite a few highly classified "black ops" in which he took part as an airborne qualified special forces soldier, sniper and all-around badass.   He managed to finagle quite a few beers out of the flight attendants, and the stories got better as the flight progressed.

- All stories vague, no verifiable locations, lots of killing, mostly by him After we land, he is of course still shitfaced, -  but he says he's in Delta and then adds "Special ops tears you up, man, hell this ain't even my real fuckin' name."   At which point he proceeds to the baggage claim, meets his party and heads out.
There IS a real SSG Sexworth  - but he  would have still been deployed at the time of the flight.

"He enlisted right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor," said Foster. "My grandparents had to sign the papers, because he was so young."

Shoemaker was also given the Bronze Star and Navy Cross for his service......

Can you have your SEAL folks check to see if they have a Jack Shoemaker in their UDT files. I don’t show him at all in my Navy Cross database. See the story at: http://www.nj.com/south/index.ssf/2009/05/late_salem_county_veterans_hon.html   DS

==========

I don't show a Jack Shoemaker as having received the Navy Cross. If he joined the Navy right after Pearl Harbor, and if he was 17 at the time, and if he remained on active duty until the SEALS were formed in 1962, he would have been about 38 at the time. If he got the Navy Cross as a SEAL, it would have to have been in Vietnam, and there is no record to support that. I suppose it's possible he could have received a Navy Cross for WW II service (even though I have no record of that being the case), I am bothered by the claim that he was a SEAL and got the Navy Cross. This does not have the ring of authenticity.  N

SHORE, PETER FRANKLIN 06/2009 . Claims to have worked with and for the Seals doing their "dirty work".  He can be quoted saying such things as, "I would be the guy who went in a slit all the guards throats so that the SEALS had it easy." Shore  has a NAVY SEALS hat in the window of his car, and a bumper sticker for the SEALS. He claims that he was a corpsman for the SEALS and that they have sent him gifts (a hat which he displays in the rear window of his car) for his dedication and hard work.  He claims that his DD- 214 says that he was a corpsman for the SEALS. Shuster, Dana 10/2006 .

"Hello David...My name is Dusty..."

These words have touched the hearts of many veterans over the years. In particular, they have brought consolation and peace to many women veterans, especially all the "Dustys" who took care of the countless "Davids" during the Vietnam conflict. The poem was so moving, in fact, that it was read by then Vice-President Al Gore at the dedication of the Vietnam Women s Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., November 11, 1993.

Recently, I learned the painful truth that the author who has called herself Dana Shuster is neither a nurse, nor a Vietnam Veteran, as she has publicly claimed for so many years. I share in the sense of betrayal and hurt of the many women veterans who have called her sister.

That said, on behalf of the Vietnam Women's Memorial Foundation Board, I encourage a compassionate response. I hope for the author's own personal healing, as perhaps deep down, she had somehow hoped for ours. Read Laura Palmer's letter.

The Foundation has no further information and will not respond to queries or comments.

September 20, 2006

To:  Diane Evans, President of the Vietnam Women's Memorial Foundation:

Several months ago I was asked a question I couldn't answer. Did I know for a fact that Dana Shuster, the nurse portrayed in my book, Shrapnel in the Heart, as "Dusty," had ever, in fact, served in Vietnam?

The question was a shocking one to me. "Dusty" is a woman I'd known for twenty years and considered as a friend. I never doubted that she was a nurse in Vietnam. But could I prove it?  I could not.

The seriousness of the question deserved an answer. I wrote to Dana Shuster, the woman known as "Dusty," and asked her if she could corroborate her service for me in specific ways. She could not.  I learned that she was never in the military and never a nurse.

She was subsequently hospitalized for psychiatric care and continues to undergo therapeutic treatment and support.

It is with profound sadness that I convey this information but it is important that the truth be known.

SIMON, EARL 03/2008 . Claims he was a SEAL from '60-'61.  He claimed that he was a secret SEAL and that he conducted missions into Northern Vietnamese prison camps, dressed as a Russian officer, and extricated US Soldiers.  Also, to his list of outlandish claims are, the Navy Cross, Silver Stars, Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart. He is not some fly-by-night poser, trying to make himself look good, but has been telling these stories for at least 15 years...

.....If the name you provided is spelled correctly, I do NOT find a listing in the SEAL database of successful graduates for anyone named EARL SIMON. I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names with similar pronunciations. Please be aware that I do not have access to any records (official or unofficial) listing the names of individuals who reported for SEAL training, but who subsequently failed to complete the training program.

Unless he has undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for which there would be court documentation) since his claimed attendance at BUD/S training, and based upon the information you have provided, I can state conclusively that EARL SIMON has NEVER COMPLETED SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL. ....

Wrote a journal which he has distributed that told a story of his war experiences and that he was seriously wounded while rescuing POW’s held by North Korea.  He gave himself the rank of Sgt. and what was so ironic that he was a “Prisoner Chaser”, picking up AWOL Marine and Navy personnel.

READ IT HERE

He enlisted in the Marine Corp but was given a bad conduct discharge within a year after enlistment.  He went AWOL two times and was involved in car theft.  The car theft charges evidently were dropped later but he was mustered out with a bad conduct.  He never left Camp Pendleton and certainly was never in Korea .

SLAGHT, CHUCK
aka Charles C Slaght
03/2009 FL
Will Graves: Trust me, don’t underestimate this Navy Seal

By Will Graves

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

You’re just going to have to trust Chuck Slaght on this one.

The chairman/spiritual leader of Southwest Florida Aquatics sees a day where a true state-of-the-art swimming facility with all the trimmings makes Naples one of the premier international event hosts in the world.

We’re talking a 55-meter pool. A couple of one-meter diving boards and a couple of three-meter diving boards. A teaching pool. Seating capacity for a couple of thousands of fans.

We’re talking programs. An elite junior program. An elite masters swim program, plus programs for swimmers of all levels in between. Plus water polo, diving and synchronized swimming. There’s even a chance it would feature underwater hockey, whatever the heck that is.

Sounds impossible, right? Man, you don’t know Chuck. The word doesn’t exist in his dictionary.

His resume is so long, it should come in chapters. A Navy Seal (sorry, he can’t really talk about that). A founding member of USA Swimming. A nationally ranked triathlete. A coach for 30 years who has helped dozens of swimmers break national and world age-group records.

The proof lies in the lives of athletes like Bob MacDonald and Karl Wiedamann. MacDonald has been setting age-group records for decades, but it wasn’t until he met Slaght that the old dog started learning new tricks.

MacDonald is 77 and beating men 25 years his junior. He’s re-written so many age-group marks they don’t bother writing them down in pen. Why waste the Wite-Out? He’s only going to do it again next time out.

Of course, MacDonald might just be borrowing the records until the Wiedamann starts mowing them down.

“I feel like I was wasting my time until I met Chuck,” Weidemann said.

When Slaght’s your coach, wasting time is against the rules. His students feed off his example. Consider this: Slaght donates 30-40 hours a week of his time to SWFA, which operates out of the Golden Gate Aquatic Center.

He’s there in the morning with the people who want to get their sets in before heading off to work. He’s there in the middle of the afternoon when MacDonald comes in for his two-hour work. He’s there in the evening when the die-hards return for the back-end of their two-a-days and the high-school kids show up.

Watching Slaght run a work-out is like seeing “Rain Man” at work. He can monitor 20 lanes crammed with 40 swimmers and tell where each one is at in their set. He’s not a cattle call coach, you know, the ones that send everybody into the pool, set their watch then work on their tan.

There are goals. Three-month goals. Six-month goals. Five-year goals. Are you 10 and want to be an Olympian? Well the 2016 games are right around the corner. Are you 36 and want to get from here to the other end of the pool and back without WaterWings? He’ll get you there.

But you’re thinking, what does all of this have to do with the swimming complex of his dreams? This is Naples after all. We don’t do big here.

Maybe we should. He sees Southwest Florida as a vein of gold waiting to be tapped. Great weather. Great kids. Great community support.

All you need is a little vision. Don’t worry, he’ll get you started. You can catch up. He’ll teach you how. It’s what he does.

For more information on SWFA, drop Chuck a line at cslaght@swfla.rr.com.

Another Firefighter Accused Of Faking Military Leave

Slawinski Allegedly Met Masa At Westmont Fire Department

POSTED: 10:41 pm CST January 5, 2007
UPDATED: 11:11 pm CST January 5, 2007
A second suburban Chicago firefighter was accused Friday of collecting his salary while out on a bogus military leave.

Firefighter Steve Slawinski, 35, is charged with forgery and theft, the Lemont Fire Protection District said in a news release Friday. The charges stem from allegations that Slawinski accepted compensation while he was on a "purported military leave."

NBC5's Amy Jacobson reported that Slawinski's colleagues kept him in their thoughts and prayers, believing that he was working with the Navy on an intelligence mission.

"We're devastated," Lemont Fire Chief Carl Churulo. "The whole fire district is devastated, the men and women of this district, our board and myself as chief."

Officials are trying to determine the extent of their losses.

"We will make every effort to see that the Fire District is made whole for any cost attributable to the alleged misrepresentation," the fire protection district's statement said.

Slawinski has been placed on inactive status pending an investigation. Slawinski was expected in bond court on Saturday.

Jacobson reported that authorities said Slawinski filled out service papers and submitted fraudulent government forms. Slawinski's salary and benefits cost Lemont approximately $10,000.

There was no phone listing available for a Steve Slawinski in Lemont, and a telephone number in nearby Romeoville was unlisted.

Jacobson reported that Slawinski has been a Lemont firefighter and a part-time Lemont police officer for four years, and he was given a commendation for saving a man's life.

"I'm surprised, because he seemed like a very straight-up guy," said one man.

Earlier this week, a firefighter from nearby Orland Park was charged with collecting more than $190,000 in salary and benefits from that community's fire department during leaves of absence he falsely claimed were for military duty.

Lawrence Masa was charged with felony theft and official misconduct. He's accused of falsifying documents showing that he was being deployed for active service in the U.S. Army in order to take five leaves of absence.

Slawinski was allegedly working for private firms in the Middle East with Masa, Jacoboson reported. The two allegedly met while working at the Westmont Fire Department.

"There were just a lot of red flags that went up over the last week or so since he's been home," Churulo said. "We met with the Orland police yesterday, and this is what has come out of it."

One firefighter told Jacobson that Slawinski was excited about his deployment with the Navy last April. Slawinski's colleagues said they were so concerned that they put up a military flag in front of the Lemont Fire Department in his honor, but that has since been taken down.

Google his name and you can find a ton more about these two.  Steve claimed to be a Recon Marine while training with FIAT with Larry Masa.
