| Barrett, Jamie | 06/2007 | . |
30 June 2007 FALKLANDS WAR HERO IS A FAKE By Mark McGivern A FALKLANDS war "hero", who took pride of place at this month's 25th anniversary remembrances, is today exposed as a fraud. Bus driver Jamie Barrett proudly paraded with genuine war heroes, lapping up the limelight and posing for photographs. But the Daily Record can reveal that Barrett, 40, bought the array of medals he brazenly wore in Edinburgh on June 14 on eBay. When the Record confronted dad-of-one Barrett at his terraced home in Livingston, West Lothian, his "courage" had left him. After originally denying he was Jamie Barrett, he admitted: "Ok, you've got me. I'm a Walter Mitty. I just wanted to be somebody, just for one day." During the memorial event, Barrett had the gall to trade stories of his wartime exploits with genuine members of the valiant 3 Para - the 3rd Battalion of Britain's famous Parachute Regiment. As others fought back tears as they remembered the 23 comrades from their regiment among the 258 fallen in the combat, tubby Barrett's thoughts were only on the imminent buffet. He hammed it up for the cameras, appearing on the front page of some newspapers, with scant regard for the families whose lives were altered forever by the struggle to reclaim the British outpost from the Argentinians in 1982. Despite his credentials being 100 per cent bogus, the fantasist shook hands with various old soldiers and had a personal "reunion" with the 3 Paras' second-in-command from the Falklands. Captain Adrian Freer, who reached the rank of major general before retiring recently, heard Barrett talk of the old days as he basked in glory he never earned. As two RAF Tornadoes roared over the Royal Mile to mark the anniversary of the war's end, Barrett's constant laughing and joking led some to question his conduct. Barrett's pretence came to light after genuine 3 Para veteran Kenny Watt met him during the memoral day. Kenny, from Dundee, said: "I was on the Royal Mile and I met this guy standing outside Deacon Brodie's pub. "I thought to myself right away, 'Aye, aye, we've got a Walter on our hands.' "I got the guy a pint and I checked out the stuff he was wearing and there's no way he was the real deal. "Most of the genuine guys from 3 Para have three medals but this guy had nine, including an MBE. He looked ridiculous. "My first impression was of his size. There's no way a former Para, who has lived through the discipline we had to face, would allow himself to put on so much weight unless he had a medical condition. "I would recognise just about everyone from 3 Para who saw combat and I certainly didn't know him." Kenny, who left the Army as a full corporal four years ago, travelled to the Paras' base in Colchester the day after the parade on the Royal Mile. He showed photographs from the front pages to comrades - and no one recognised Barrett. He said: "That settled it. I got angrier and angrier and I decided to track him down. I eventually gave him a phone at home and asked some questions. "When I asked what he actually did during the war, he just said some rubbish like, 'I just tried to stay alive.' "For me, this was a big day, a real emotional rollercoaster because some of the memories are quite difficult. "The point of the memorial was to mark the sacrifice of those who had fallen, yet here we had this buffoon having a laugh and grabbing the limelight." Kenny, 49, added: "He's lucky he didn't get lynched. I had so much going on in my mind the day I met him, he got off the hook. But on another day, I might well have punched him. "I've met a few Walters in my time and they make me sick." Kenny's own memories came flooding back at the big day in Edinburgh. He remembered those who lost their lives and some close friends who died prematurely through post-traumatic stress disorder. Kenny showed the Record a photograph of him alongside his mate, machine gunner Bob Taylor, while they were being shipped to Ascension Island from Falkland Islands after the war. Kenny, who helped 3 Para's 1 Platoon clear up the battleground at the end of the Mount Longdon push, said: "Bob suffered badly from PTSD after the war and never recovered. "He had a lot of problems with alcohol and after he died, many people I met when I helped to organise his funeral said that Mount Longdon was all Bob ever talked about when he was drunk. "I like to think that when I parade with all the lads from 3 Para during 1982 that he is with me. "It's stuff like that that makes my blood boil, as fraudsters like this guy Barrett defile the achievements of genuine guys like Bob." Barrett's conduct was also slammed by Freda McKay, mother of Ian McKay, who was one of only two servicemen to be posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for valour in the Falklands. Ian, 29, a sergeant with 3 Para, was killed on Mount Longdon as he stormed an Argentinian machine-gun post during the final push to Port Stanley. Freda, 73, said: "This man sounds like he has something wrong with him. It's clearly quite despicable to relive the good deeds of other people in this way. "I've spoken to a few people whom I felt were clearly making stuff up. The past few weeks have reopened some memories I had stored away and it has been quite difficult. We could be doing without people like this." Barrett's conduct mirrors that of hoaxer "Captain Sir" Alan McIlwraith, exposed by the Record last year. When the Record tracked down Barrett, he cut a less impressive figure in his civvy clothes, as he blustered out his reasons for the gross deception. He said: "I wanted to be a somebody for a change. I wanted to be a romantic figure, I guess, and, in the end, I just screwed up big time and I'm ashamed." Barrett added: "I lost control of the situation. I just wanted to enjoy the day out. But when I realised the photos would be in the papers the next day, I started to think about what was happening. I could see that the genuine Paras were looking really emotional. "I could see men holding back tears and obviously thinking about guys who hadn't made it and that hit me hard. "I guess all I can do is face up to the fact I'm a Walter Mitty, a wannabe and I'm a disgrace. End of story. I didn't mean to cause any offence." Barrett insisted he had been in the TA and briefly in the regular Army. Last night, an Army spokeswoman said: "Quite simply, it's a sad situation to witness someone portraying themselves as something they are not. "More seriously, these actions could cause great offence to those who have been involved in active service." RECORD VIEW: Page 8 |

QUESTION EVERYTHING !!! ACTUAL RECORDSClaims to have been a tunnel rat in Vietnam but also wears LRRP and Ranger Shoulder Patches. He also wears the Jungle School Patch from the school down in Panama? Known for designing the local Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial as well http://www.vva.org/TheVeteran/2001_07/northcarolina.htm.VVA Chapter Affiliation: 0530
".... The first glimpse I
saw of his uniform shows a Ranger qualification tab over the
1st Cav. COMBAT patch on his RIGHT shoulder? Not
lately! The Ranger tab is worn exclusively over......
Love the generic MACV-SOG patch above his right breast
pocket too. Can't tell what that patch on his right
breast pocket is, but it ISN'T a Jungle Operations (JOTC)
qualification patch. What appears to be one of those
generic flea market LRRP tabs is on his left breast pocket
flap.
Can't make out what the flash (or whatever) on his black
beret is. Another combat field wireman!"
"...he's wearing Master Jump Wings. Highly unusual, as he would need to have served with an airborne unit to have had enough jumps to wear the Master Wings...
...Ranger Tab, then he's
incorrect as the Tab is never worn on the right shoulder
since it's a qualification badge, not a combat
patch.... So if he indeed claims he is a
"Tabbed" Ranger, the only way anyone gets that
one is to graduate from the Army Ranger School at Ft
Benning. There is no other way. Thus, he would have
a class nbr and date. ... wearing the LRRP patch on his
left pocket. Again, this is not an authorized
patch."

Claims
SOG, NSA Lost 1000 men on the same mission on the same day. Claims
Major. Claims American Peace Officers Hall of Fame. Some report he has
also stated he was captured on the mission that lost 1000 men.
HIS CLAIM: He was a Major, in Vietnam, LRP with 1st
Recon, counting POWs on the trail. From his own paperwork: "... We went on a mission to count POWs. I don't remember if I did two missions on one trip or if that was a separate entry. I don't know if the above makes me eligible for a Southeast Asia ribbon with clusters and a purple Heart with a cluster, 3 rebounds and two purple hearts, four ribbons and two purple hearts, or what..." 03/2005: Lost 1000 men in battle. One of the
"men in black". Took a year to get MIB to put the story on the
air.
08/2006 - The unfortunate thing is how much harm he
causes to so many unsuspecting people. It's outrageous.
I wish he'd end up in prison where he belongs.
================================ 15 February 2007. He claimed to be an (ex) operative of the
NSA (National Security Agency) a minister, a counselor and an expert
at law enforcement, interrogation and truth-finding. DON'T MISS THIS!! http://www.noelbenoistthetruthbetold.com/ quote Looking over the Board of Veterans Appeals decision Benoist has posted, this is a REMAND action, which means the appeal was returned to the AOJ (Agency of Original Jurisdiction) to address an issue that should have been addressed or clarified. Unless Mr. Benoist can produce substantial, relevant, and contemporaneous evidence in which a treating physician provides a medical nexus and rationale regarding the issue on appeal he will get nowhere. I'd really like to see the FINAL decision in his appeal. I'll bet it would be a barrel of laughs. His contentions as he has written on his site are of NO probative value and, in places, are even contradictory to his claim for the benefits requested on appeal. His supposed "contradiction" of the Department of Veterans Affairs Duty to Assist is beyond ludicrous, as the Board notes that all duty to assist provisions have been complied with. This was remanded to address a different issue, and for the idiot…oops, veteran…to be afforded a Supplemental Statement of the Case. NOT to address duty to assist issues. If he makes this many errors in his own case, I would hate to see the claims of the veterans he supposedly "advocates" for. He has misinterpreted almost every VA law and regulation he has had the audacity to post and address. He is a complete, total and overwhelming idiot in these matters, and shouldn't be allowed within 200 meters of a veteran's claim. end quote |

| Bernstein, Donnie | 02/2007 | New York |
What a hoot, I just watched Judge Joe Brown on TV and the claiment
declared he was a Navy SEAL, and then a LT Col in the Air Force.
Prior to that he was an Army private. He is from New York.
The judge Joe Brown asked him for his challenge coin of course he did
not have one and also was asked about what SEAL team he was with and
of course he stumbled like a fool.
|
As
was obvious to you, to the Judge on the show, and probably to every
other viewer and listener in the TV ‘courtroom’, the man’s claims
of being a Navy SEAL were totally bogus. Of all his claims, the “Army
Private” is probably the most accurate, if he actually served in the
military in any capacity. Despite it being an obvious falsehood, I did
check the SEAL database just to be sure. I did
NOT find a listing in the SEAL database for anyone named Donald
“Donnie” Bernstien. Be
aware that I have also examined possible alternate spellings
and/or similar pronunciations
(BERNSTEIN,
BERNSTEN,
etc). There is only one man in the entire SEAL database with the last
name “BERNSTEIN”…
and neither his first nor middle name is “Donald/Donnie”. Unless he has
undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an action for
which there would be court documentation) since his claimed service with
the SEAL Teams, and based upon the information you have provided, I can
state conclusively that DONALD
“DONNIE” BERNSTIEN/BERNSTEIN has NEVER completed
SEAL training, and he is not now, nor was he ever a US Navy SEAL or UDT
“Frogman”. Please be aware that the SEAL database includes the names
of all men who served with the Underwater Demolition Teams
(“Frogmen”). Since 1983 when the UDTs were all re-commissioned as
SEAL Teams it has been the convention within the Naval Special Warfare
community to use the modern term “SEAL” when referring to all men
who ever served in any of the SEAL ‘precursor’ units. Thank you for
your concern in this matter, and for your assistance in upholding the
honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams Very
respectfully, Steve

Claims to be a Navy SEAL, having served in Bosnia.
Claims to have completed buds training. Claims to have received the Bronze Star for Courage Under Fire. Claims to have received Good Conduct Medal. Claims the SF on discharge certificate stands for Special Forces. Claims to have killed 2 men without using a weapon. |
I've never seen a Bronze Star listed that way before.
I couldn't see the SF listing on the 214, I need new glasses, but on a
Navy form I would think SF stood for San Francisco.

| BILLEAUD, CHRISTOPHER | 03/2008 | ms |
Posted on Wed, Mar. 26, 2008 Purple Heart faked, VA saysBy MEGHA SATYANARAYANAmegha@sunherald.com -- A disabled Biloxi Air Force veteran was one of two men arrested Tuesday on charges of lying about receiving military medals, including the Purple Heart. The Department of Veterans Affairs filed criminal complaints against Christopher Billeaud, 52, of Biloxi and John Wayne Lebo, 57, of Tylertown. Both men were released on unsecured bonds of $25,000 and $5,000, respectively. Both face a year in prison and $100,000 fines for each violation. Billeaud is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and the Gulf Coast chapter president of the National Defense Transportation Association. He is accused of altering his discharge papers to indicate he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star and using the papers to get a Purple Heart license plate, which is free of charge for life and does not expire. He is also accused of falsifying his rank, claiming to be a retired chief master sergeant rather than a master sergeant. Billeaud has been advised not to speak about the case, but his wife, Kathleen, said the charges aren't true, and the whole thing is a big misunderstanding. She said he dived into a foxhole during an attack and sandbags fell on him, breaking his neck. He is 100 percent disabled, according to the VA, and is unable to work. She said the Air Force did not grant her husband the Purple Heart. The VA gave it to him. "This has been a nightmare," she said. "We have the paperwork to prove the VA awarded him the Purple Heart. The VA notified him, not the other way around." Lebo was arrested for allegedly altering documents to indicate he received the "Silver Star, Purple Heart for wounds received for action, Airborne Medal and Sharpshooter," during his service in the Army. He used the documents to obtain license plates for eight different cars. Lebo was discharged as a Private E-1 in 1969. Billeaud's attorney, John Weber, assistant federal public defender, said charges of falsifying military awards are not common. The burden is now on the federal government to prove its case. The affidavit for Billeaud's case said he told Air Force investigators he did not have a Purple Heart or Bronze Star. He also told investigators he did not know how the Harrison County Tax Collector's Office got copies of his discharge papers, because he never sent them in prior to getting the Purple Heart license plate. Kathleen Billeaud said the VA sent the papers on his behalf, indicating he was honored with the awards. She said the family has been getting help from U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor to clear an Air Force mix-up that denied him the award for "seeking shelter." She said upon returning home, her husband didn't push for the Purple Heart, she did, because she knows her husband served the country proudly. "I was on the phone the night of the attack. I heard the SCUD attack, I heard the air raid sirens... and I heard the phone go dead," she said. Posted on Wed, Mar. 26, 2008 2 men arrested for falsely claiming to have Purple Heart medalsThe Associated Press JACKSON, Miss. -- Two men have been arrested for falsely claiming to have been awarded Purple Heart medals for injuries in combat, U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton said. Lampton said in a news release that Christopher Billeaud, 52, of Biloxi and John Wayne Lebo, 57, of Tylertown were both arrested Monday. The two are charged with using falsified records to obtain Purple Heart license plates for their vehicles. Purple Heart tags are provided free of charge to military veterans who earned the medal. Billeaud was released on a $25,000 bond after appearing Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge John Roper in Gulfport, Lampton said. Lebo posted a $5,000 bond after a hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael T. Parker in Hattiesburg. Lebo's attorney, John Weber III, was unavailable for comment. Kathleen Billeaud, the wife of Christopher Billeaud, who served in the Air Force during the first Iraq war, said the government is mistaken. "My husband did not falsify anything. Sandbags collapsed on his neck during a scud (missile) attack, and his neck was broken," she said. "I have the documentation right in front of me to prove it." U.S. Air Force investigators went to the Billeaud home in April 2007 over allegations that he was claiming to be a chief master sergeant when he retired as a master sergeant, according to court papers. One of the officers noticed that a vehicle parked at Billeaud's home had a Purple Heart license plate. Court records say that Billeaud told the investigators he had not received a Purple Heart. Kathleen Billeaud said her husband has been recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the head of Keesler Air Force Base hospital as receiving a Purple Heart but not by the U.S. Air Force. She said the Air Fore recognizes his disability but said there was some discrepancy on how he was injured. "He's partially disabled," she said. "How can he have these injuries and they are not service related?" Billeaud denied providing the Harrison County tax collectors office his discharge letters and does not know how they received them, records show. Lebo served with the U.S. Army from 1967-69 as a firearm instructor. According to court papers, along with fraudulently claiming a Purple Heart, Lebo altered his discharge papers to show he had received a Silver Star, Airborne Medal and Sharpshooter. He first obtained a Purple Heart License plate in 1999. Lebo's alleged phony discharge papers were discovered after an investigator compared his original forms with the ones he used in Walthall County in order to obtain the Purple Heart license plate. "It's not just about earning the tag, but when you have a Purple Heart, you get priority treatment at V.A. medical centers," Assistant U.S. Attorney Ruth Morgan said. "When this happens, you cheat true veterans that need treatment for their wounds suffered in combat." Falsely claiming war medals is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $100,000. Information from: The Clarion-Ledger, http://www.clarionledger.com |

| Bixler, Phillip | 06/2003 | . | Claiming SPECIAL
FORCES and "GREEN BERET"... Claims 5th SF, Major, 4 DSC, 5 Purple Hearts, 101st Airborne. Wears tan TAM (not U.S. MILITARY ISSUE beret) with flash on it! Oak leaf (rank) is not worn properly.
The "beret" which Bixler is pictured wearing
is in fact a British army "Tam O' shanter" also known as a
"Tos" it is the standard issue wear for enlisted & NCO
ranks in the Scottish Regiments of the Scottish Division of the
British Army, I used to wear one when I was in the Argyll &
Sutherland Highlanders. & The Glasgow & Strathclyde UOTC.
as such he has no right to wear the cap unless he served in one of the
proud Scottish regiments (Scots guards, Royal Scots, Royal Highland
Fusiliers, The Highland regiment, The Kings own Scottish Borders,
Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, the Scots Greys or attached corps
troops & UOTC/Territorial Army regiments). This cant be
mistaken for the Civilian version which is called a Balmoral and is
manufactured in black or blue cloth, Officers & Senior NCOS also
use a privately purchased military version of the balmoral cap for
everyday use.
So the questions are
1.Why is he wearing a British Army standard issue
OR/Junior NCO cap instead of Officer/Senior NCO private purchased cap
2 Which regiment does he claim a connection to?
