That may be a lot of the reason that Frank is
defending Smitty in the first place. Smitty's (part) Cherokee, but
he practices Lakota ways. Frank's Lakota, and so was Nick Standing
Bear. NSB and Smitty have both claimed POW. A
===============================
He has gained weight and had glasses on in the
picture, so I wasn't sure, but they called me back and all verified
that it was him.
Standing Bear claims to have been a POW in Vietnam, and had the scars on
his back where he was beaten by his guards to prove it. They also shoved
bamboo spikes in his back. He danced without a shirt so all could
see the scars. Naturally everyone asked him about them. During the
short time he was in GA he told everyone about his bogus military
service and for about three weeks he was the hit of the powwow circuit.
After M told him to "get out", he left and
was never heard from again - until now. T

The Artist: Eugene “Geno” Vicencio
Eugene
has been drawing and, painting all his life, using it as
a tool to express his love of his nationality, beauty of
his environment and an outlet to make a statement of his
experiences. Eugene Vicencio is a 56-year-old Vietnam
veteran who served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne
from 1967 to 1969 as a recon-wireman where he had to
coordinate the enemy’s position bringing the
information to his superiors. Geno
was captured in Vietnam was held as a prisoner of war,
and rescued some time later. He returned to do
yet another tour in the U.S. Marine Corps during the
1970’s as a gunny in an artillery unit. Diagnosed with
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), he uses art to
safely recreate his experiences in Vietnam, thus giving
himself tremendous confidence to meet his PTSD head-on.
“Drawing and painting put me at ease and in a relaxed
state of mind,” Eugene says. “It’s what I do best,
and I look forward to each day that I can experience the
peace of mind that my art brings to me.
It was during the time he was in captivity that Eugene
realized the beauty of life and the importance of
serving one’s country. He vowed to place on paper the
visions he carried with him so others might become more
aware of, and appreciate, all that life has to offer.
Geno states:
“As a Vietnam Veteran and POW, Jim’s poetry struck
my heart and soul. Jim captures the essence of the
Vietnam experience from the soldiers’ point of view.
So poignant and real is Jim’s poem, that it brought
tears to my eyes and joy to my soul.” |

his association with the Veteran's Administration his work has
