I could definitely go with John McCain as I know him personally as we were both Prisoner of War in Vietnam together at the Hanoi Hilton. He was there for 4 1/2 years (I do not know how he did it) and I was there for 1 year. He took me in like a son as there was about a 12-13 year difference in our ages. Super Great Man.

He was born Dec. 7, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio, ... Kenneth was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the 1st Cavalry Division, U.S. Army, as a warrant officer and helicopter pilot. He received the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, three Purple Hearts and was a prisoner of war from 1972 to 1973. ...
NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH Albert "Bud" Porter /who lives in Hilton Head, SC and is head of volunteers at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Savannah GA, serving the 8th AF Historical Society for many decades and himself a ball turret gunner veteran on B-17s. These two people have the same names AND nicknames, yet are two completely different people.

Me: Daniel who?
Me: Where were you a POW?
Him: Central highlands, Vietnam!
Me: Where?
Him: Mid and central highlands. Vietnam.
Me: What camp were you held in?
Him: Me and four other guys were kept in a hole in the ground, 15 feet deep.
Me: How long were you held?
Him: 27 months, 4 days, 8 hours and 24 minutes.....
Me: What years were you a POW?
Me: What service were you in?
Me: I'm sorry about your condition.....as I pointed to his left leg stump...

When eating one day, tears started running down his cheek. He stated, "Because of all the things the Vietnamese did to me I can't control my eyes from tearing when I eat."
Another time: "I was a POW for 7 years. I was in the CIA in 'Secret Operations'".
Later: "I was a POW for two years."
And then: "you don't understand, I was a POW for 2 years with the Air Force, then they discharged me to the CIA as I was a CIA operative. I did the other 5 years as a POW with the CIA."
2004 - Because he had been the "5th longest held" Vietnam POW, he was able to get government monies for a business startup. Now, this state's Secretary of State has suspended his company's corporation. Further, he meets with local politicians in support of democratic fundraising and continues to introduce himself as a POW.
He currently spends a lot of time with the Democratic party in San Jose and wears the uniform of a full AirForce Col. Still saying he was a POW.

years captivity at Hanoi Hilton. Claims Amy service, Navy service
then Marine Corp. Pilot flying off aircraft carrier. Claims to have
known Senator McCain and was shot down about the same time he was.
This is not a student's embellishment. The poor kid wrote was he was told. Price should be run out of town.
This is a good chance tho for the teacher to now go back and expound on journalism ethics.... TWO sources. Had they check JUST the internet for names, they could have stopped this before it went this far. HOMEWORK. They have to do the HOMEWORK.
Otherwise they grow up to be writers that make statements like this:

.... have contacted the editor of the paper on several occasions, trying to get the paper to investigate the story. As you have said, it is obviously false. The editor (Ruth Herrink) said she turned the investigation to the teacher (Mark Fike) who gave the assignment, but I haven't seen or heard of anything being done. What do you think the next step should be that would help to resolve this problem? Let me know what you think. The link to the original story is above.

There was a complete POW fabrication of "A
HERO'S STORY" authored by a FREDERICK E. PULSE III who
claimed to have been an escaped POW. "The story" begins
on page 144 and concludes on page 151.
His "A HERO'S STORY"
was excerpted from his
forthcoming novel "Vietnumb,
The Secret's of War".

Pulse is deceased.
When the story was reported in 2004 - the Publisher was notified,
provided evidence of the fairy tale and false story, and the story was
to be pulled from all future editions.

I help fundraising efforts for the American Vetrans-the Amvets. I sit next to a man named Steve Q. A big guy six foot two inches and 240 pounds. Nice man to talk to. I over heard a conversation, it goes something to the effect of:
"Yeah I joined the 3rd division Marine Recon div, called the Red Bull." I went to Viet Nam in Febuary 1964. I was captured and held in a prisoner of war camp by the V.C. for 2 years 9 months and 13 days. I escaped with 4 other G.I.'s and we ran as fast as we could. I fell into a 60 foot ditch and a large tree limb stuck through my body. I had compound fractures in one arm.".....
