| Feist,
Gary aka Gary Fiest |
Midland, TX | 05/2007 06/2007 |
quote Fellow C/227 members Several
months ago I brought up the fact that Gary Feist, a ‘wannabe’ in In
the beginning, I was contacted by Britt
Taylor Collins (pleiku@comcast.net) who is an awesome artist who was commissioned by
Feist to do some artwork for Feist and during his research, became
suspicious of Feist's 'stories' re his tour during 1970 thru 1971.
Check out Britt’s website, he does awesome Gary
Feist (sometimes he's Fiest!)
got his hair up when Britt questioned his stories.
Britt’s an honest guy and has the greatest respect for us.
He’s worked with enough of us to know when he’s being conned.
He was willing to refuse a commission rather than create an art
of fiction. Feist
had all kinds of heroic claims wherein he was a CIA sniper who lead SEAL
teams in secret in across the border missions, who had become so
infamous within the company that they were going to display his rifle at
HQ. A
friend/contact at the CIA laughed at such a thought of any such display
(they don’t do that) or person.
“…the research into the matter went all the way to the head curator.
The response was a serious, no two ways about it, answer-definite
negative. The CIA is almost always vague in their answers concerning
personnel. However, this was one answer with which they could be direct
and categorical.” Feist
mentioned a C/227 buddy, Capt.
John Elphick jelphick@scirealty.com
from In
fact ‘wannabe’ hunters Mary
and Chuck Schantag who run the P.O.W. Network at http://www.pownetwork.org,
confirmed Elphick is ‘real’ but that there’s no military record
what so ever of Feist/Fiest.
Other records show he spells his name two different ways in
public records, and simple chronological dating of his claims make it
impossible for him to have gone to schools he said he went to, joined
the CIA, been trained, led SEALS, etc etc.
Just no
way. A
SEAL contact, who knows names/dates of every single person who became a
SEAL, failed to become a SEAL, and fought with, much less led SEALS,
also said neither Feist nor anyone like him existed leading SEAL
missions. “Gary Fiest makes much of his SEAL buddy, Sean, who died in his arms
after a hot extract from To
cut to the chase, it sounds like Feist, or Fiest, has taken some war
stories he’s heard and put claim to them himself as if he lived
through them. Some were
factual and did happen, but not by Feist.
Some were likely Elphick’s or So?
We left over 58,000 legitimate heroes behind.
Far
from innocent blather, wannabes have caused all kinds of trouble and
mischief, and worse. There's the whole question of stolen identity
these days but above and beyond that (no pun intended) laws have been
written calling this 'stolen honor.' These individuals attempt to
get a free ride off of those who paid a price - sometimes the ultimate
price. Some have gotten elected to high office, others have risen
in the business world or society based upon their false background.
At the least it's like lying on your resume, claiming to have attributes
that you don't have. Many
of these people are an embarrassment to real veterans. They
propagate fictional stories that perpetuate the false myth of That’s
the story. I
hope that there’ll be one more addition to this story and that will be
from Elphick. I
hope he’ll inform us he’s had a long hard talk with Feist and set
him straight, and that Feist has agreed to cease and desist and has told
his last story.
Meantime,
you now have a contact that will chase down anyone you legitimately
suspect of being a ‘wannabe.’
The P.O.W. Network
has amazing contacts and can get to the bottom of it but do not have a
huge staff or budget so please don’t waste their time over the most
insignificant matters.
In fact, pay them a visit and make a donation if you can. I'm
Howie Belkin, and am no hero. I
was a DG 1969- end of Jan 70, C 227 in Phuoc Vinh.
I flew most missions on 66-16647 ‘Nevada Gambler.’ PS
Re Britt’s background.
“…not
only am I a military artist, but… I serve in an official capacity as a
civilian aide to the Commander of the endquote |

=========== Travaglini Backed Traffic Offender Before Passing New Law
POSTED: 4:15 pm EST March 25, 2006
UPDATED: 4:24 pm EST March 25, 2006
BOSTON -- Senate President Robert Travaglini wrote a letter vouching for a habitual traffic offender and convicted drunken driver months before helping the Legislature pass tougher drunken driving laws. The Boston Herald reported that in February 2005 Travaglini sent the letter on Statehouse office stationery to a New Hampshire court on behalf of John A. Flynn. Flynn was later sentenced to one to three years in a New Hampshire prison for violating a habitual offender law that prevented him from driving because of 16 motor vehicle violations between 1994 and 2005. Flynn, 56, was arrested for drunken driving in Massachusetts in 1996 and was repeatedly cited for driving in the state with a suspended license, according to records. New Hampshire authorities also alleged that Flynn falsely claimed to have earned two Purple Hearts in Vietnam. "His record is outrageous," said Jim Reams, a New Hampshire district attorney whose office prosecuted Flynn. "It's surprising the Senate president would want to be involved in a case that's so lopsided." Travaglini helped pass Melanie's Law last fall to strengthen punishments for drunken drivers. A spokeswoman, Anne Dufresne, said Travaglini was unaware of Flynn's drunken driving conviction or Purple Heart claims when he wrote the letter. She said he wrote the letter because of contributions Flynn has made to youth programs. "They've known each other for a while and (Flynn) has been a good neighbor and contributor, particularly to programs the Senate president holds dear," she said. A lawyer for Flynn said Travaglini's letter was one of several submitted on his client's behalf. Attorney Tim Harrington said Flynn, who manages a carnival company based in Seabrook, N.H, is a hardworking man. "He was by no means trying to evade the law," he said. |
John Flynn had
numerous disciplinary problems while in the service, including a Special
Court Martial while in Vietnam. On or about 7 April 1970, violated a
lawful general order, to wit: paragraph 32b of Section IV of
Enclosure(1) of Forcer Order 7210.1B dated 30 April 1968, by delivering
U.S. Currency to an unauthorized person, to wit: a Vietnamese
interpreter. PLEAS Guilty FINDINGS Guilty John Flynn was employed by Dean & Flynn Fiesta Shows as General Manager, beginning in 1971, while continuing to claim to be unable to work.. John Flynn is now Vice President of Dean & Flynn Fiesta Shows, Seabrook, NH, a multi-million dollar business and oversees several hundred employees while receiving a substantial salary. |

Sansone offers helping hand, heart to fellow veterans
Thu, Nov 11, 2004
KRISTA J. KARCH Observer-Dispatch
" "Mr. Tony!" shouted Gloria Fuller, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, when Sansone made a delivery to her West Utica apartment. Fuller moves her mouth around a wayward tongue, forming words carefully in a manner practiced since she was rescued from a POW camp in Vietnam, where enemy interrogators sliced the muscle beneath her tongue. On one fluttering hand is a dark smudge -- a faded prisoner number -- tattooed just below the knuckles."
...
She gasped, immediately misty-eyed.
Fuller ran away from home at 16 to join the Marine
Corps as a nurse.
"I had to lie a little bit about my
age," she said.
The Army took her to Vietnam, where
she and another nurse once spent 72
hours on their feet before they rested beneath a tree.
"I said, 'Shouldn't one of us stay
awake?'" Fuller remembered. "But my friend
said, 'We're just closing our eyes for a minute.'"
They fell asleep and awoke to bayonets at
their throats....

EXPOSED Uticans' claim of POW status unsubstantiated Names not on Pentagon list; man, woman say stories true Sat, Nov 13, 2004 KRISTA J. KARCH Observer-Dispatch The Pentagon agency that keeps track of Vietnam prisoners of war said Friday it has no record that two people profiled in an Observer-Dispatch Veterans Day story were POWs. In the story, Gloria Fuller and Webster Knowlton, both of Utica, each gave their accounts of time spent in prison camps during the Vietnam War more than three decades ago. After the story's publication, some readers raised questions about the veracity of Knowlton's and Fuller's stories, prompting the O-D to make more inquiries. On Friday, John Horn, division chief of document management at the U.S. Defense Prisoners of War/Missing in Action Personnel Office, said neither Gloria Fuller nor Webster Knowlton are on the POW list. Only those individuals on this list are officially recognized by the Department of Defense as having been a POW or missing in action..... |
