B'ROAD, KENNETH III VICTORVILLE 09/2008
Former prisoners of war and missing in action to be honored
 September 18, 2008 - 12:00PM
 RYAN ORR Staff Writer
 VICTORVILLE - Friday the nation recognizes men and women who span generations,  but all sacrificed years of their lives or made the ultimate sacrifice - life itself. ...

 Local veterans have mixed feelings about their experiences in foreign war prison  camps. Kenneth B'road III spent nine years in a Vietnam prison camp, but says  Friday's remembrance should be all about the 2,244 who are still missing. ...

... No man with a name similar to "B'road" was ever with any one of us, the real surviving 661 POWs of the Vietnam War, nor is he known by the Department of Defense in this regard.  I'm afraid you got snookered by a dilusional wannabe.   You mentioned DPMO in your article.  You can go to their official web site for the complete list of all 3,797 MIAs (to include all POWs) at the following site:

The Fairy Tale

.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  These guys with the false claims are coming out of the woodwork by the thousands....over 2,000 phony POWs from Vietnam, over 4,000 phony SEALS, over 7,000 phony Special Forces.

People ask me why folks do this sort of thing.  After looking at thousands of
cases I can only conclude that they all have low self esteem.  Some do it for sympathy, some to make hits on girls in a bar, some to impress their co-workers and friends, and some to help them commit fraud.  Some are
desperate for some security as they get older.  They probably do not have
medical insurance and they try to fool the VA.  I am currently assisting the
VA in routing out hundreds of these guys who have fooled the VA with false
claims.  We will get them all charged and indicted.  It just takes time when working with a bureaucracy.

Meanwhile, your friend is just a lonely old man who is looking for sympathy,
maybe your respect and friendship.  You need to tell him to grow up and act like an honorable man.  One has to wonder if he ever served at all.  We have a great number of these guys who never served in the armed services, yet they are "wannabes."  You can get a copy of his service record with a Form 180 request from St. Louis,  You might be curious as to the contents.

The real Gy SGt Orville Roger Ballinger was a POW.  He is member of our organization.  He is not Jim Ballinger.

ROGER DALE BARNES: Doctor working for the VA, who says that he is a retired "Green Beret" Colonel, who has been awarded every medal for Valor except the MOH. Brags about the time his A-team "stole" a C-130 and flew it in to "save" a Battalion of Marines. Guess he must also be a pilot. Yeah, and I'm the Pope!!!

=============================

Roger Dale Barnes has claimed POW status for 100+ days to students at a High School in Murfreesboro, TN. He did this to several classes as part of a POW/MIA series to History classes. Several  adults were present. HE CLAIMED HIS RECORDS ARE STILL CLASSIFIED. He claimed the rank of Colonel US Army and is delusional about still being activated periodically. Last seen wearing a general's star.

quote:

.... my father ....  was referred to him by the VA. After two sessions my father questioned his claims. Well, actually in true fashion, he said, “That fat ass is full of shit.”

Dr. Barnes claims were all visible in a huge shadow box on the wall:
SF Colonel
DSC ;DSM; Silver Star; Bronze Star; 5 Purple Hearts;
CIB; Ranger Tab; SF Tab; MFF (HALO) wings; Senior Jump wings; Air Assault Wings

and to top it all off, his DSC was still being considered for the MOH. Nice story about surrounded Marines, stolen C-130's and LBJohnson. Had some support from a "Quiet Professional" at the Special Forces Teamhouse. This "Quiet Pro" was awarded the DSC in
VietNam and is a member of the Legion of Valor, a veterans organization made up entirely of the recipients of the MOH, DSC, the Navy Cross and the Air Force Cross. It seems as though the list of these heroes is very short, add in the SF factor, and it becomes even shorter. And our hero Roger wasn't on it.  Thus the first entry in his section on your website.

So, I did some more snoopin & poopin and guess what? The guy didn't have a PH.D. either.

Becker, James

James (Jim) A. Becker

Punta Gorda FL 03/2006

04/2010

Reports himself to be a Marine four Star General and a POW escapee. Says that no data bases list his name due to the "secret" nature of his service. Asked why he doesn't have any retirement benefits and he blames it on his ex-wife taking all his benefits and President Bush (senior) putting a hold on his retirement. Asked why he can't present his ID card and he states that he was ordered to keep it in a safety box in California. Even when presented with all the facts negating his claim, he insists on his service. He doesn't have an explanation for the fact that the only four star Marine during his claimed service was the Commandant of the Corp which is one thing he doesn't claim to be because that would be too easy to trace.

==============================================

He also claims to have been a POW in LAOS in 1961 (freed by Vietnamese Montagnards!!!), flown U-2s and F-4s, run the Desert One operation in Iran in 1980, run Afghanistan Mujahedeen operations in the 1980s, been the Consul General for DOS in Bombay, India, is a personal friend of VP Biden and a litany of other "accomplishments."

=========================================================

....introduced to an individual who presented himself as a retired USMC Lt. Gen.  This individual, James (Jim) A. Becker, proceeded to tell us that he was asked to be the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) when he retired in 1997, at the request of GEN(R) John Shalikashvili, a close personal friend.  He also claimed the following:

1. That he has used his retired rank/status to attempt to influence the issuance of visas at the Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

2. That he had influenced Miltec Security Corp. to send mercenaries to Northern Ecuador and that these people had been employed in operations to neutralize (kill) FARC insurgents.

3.  That he has used his position as a Rotary Officer and retired military officer to gain access to the highest levels of the Ecuadorian Military in the 3rd Division.

4.  That he had a 38 or 39 year-old son (USMC) who was gravely injured in Beirut - supposedly this son was born in 1980 - the math doesn't work unless he joined the Corps at the age of of 9 or 10 (Semper Fi).  His other son, (45 yrs old) is supposedly the President of the Americas Division of ING (Google Search shows that Jeffrey T. Becker is the CEO of ING Americas and that he attended Colgate Univ., which corroborates with what he told us).

5.  That he is a retired Company Officer and current board member of Miltec Security Corp. (formerly Blackwatch) and has a 20% share in the company.

6.  That he could use his influence both as a military professional and retired civilian with Miltech to bring additional resources to bear in the FARC threat along Ecuador's Northern Border - funds, equipment, personnel
and use his " personal contacts" with Robert Gates (Sec Def) and former President Clinton to shape US/Embassy policy with regards to the US position on the Northern Border.  He intimated that he had personal funds and knew donors that would help finance these activities.

American in Ecuador accused of faking

By Gina Cavallaro - Staff writer
Posted : Tuesday May 25, 2010 14:09:52 EDT

On a routine official visit to meet with foreign military commanders in the southern Ecuador city of Cuenca in late April, Army Col. Robert Gaddis and his team of U.S. liaison officers met a man who introduced himself as retired Marine Corps Lt. Gen. James A. Becker.

Over beer, then dinner, Becker told stories so dazzling that, to Gaddis, they began to sound suspicious, then outrageous, then untrue. His claims also caught the attention of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which has launched an investigation. ...

Claimed POW TWICE, Vietnam. Silver Star. Special Forces

=====

In addition to that Silver Star he says he had, he claimed he was a POW twice and both times escaped.  He claimed that he had intimate ties with the FBI Sniper Team in the Jacksonville, FL area.  He claimed numerous medals and awards from the Republic of Vietnam.  This man wore 10 rows (30) of ribbons and medals on both sides of his chest.  It was impressive.  However, it seems that Gary Lee was stationed as far West as Travis AFB, CA before he was discharged from the U.S. Air Force.  It seems that while Gary Lee was being processed for discharge, he acquired some DD 214's and some Letterhead so that he could type them up later at his leisure.  He even had letter's signed by General Westmoreland (probably Iron Mike'd). Discharged In Disgrace.

Gary Lee is well versed in firearms and has an affinity for them.

=====

Claims he served in the Army, the Air Force, and retired in the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. Also claims he was Air Force para rescue in Vietnam, and that he assisted in the recovery of downed pilots. Stated that the UH-1 he was on was shot down by ground fire, and he was captured by Viet Cong forces. He said after he was captured a Viet Cong soldier stabbed him in his leg with an SKS bayonet so that he could not run. He later stated that he and another man perpetrated an escape as they were being marched through the jungle by overtaking a small guard. He says that he was recaptured by a different group of Viet Cong, but that he was traded to some farmers for livestock. He then claims he was returned to US custody. He claims this earned him a Distinguished Service Cross,  awarded by Nixon in D.C sometime later. He had the medal in his office. He also claims he was part of the Saigon evacuation at the end of the war, and that he was on the last helicopter out of the city.

Belotti, Andy

aka Andrew Belotti

NC 03/2010 Claimed he was a POW to members of AL Post 187

In reference to your inquiry, no man named Andy Belotti was ever with any one of us, the real 664 surviving POWs of the Vietnam War, nor is
he known  by the Department of Defense in this regard.  You can call the DoD Public Affairs Officer directly during Washington, DC working hours to verify this.  Talk to Larry Greer.

Here is the official DoD website listing all 3,797 MIAs (to include all POWs): If his name is not on this list, he is a wannabe POW.  The list has never been proven wrong in the last 35 years.  No one was left off the lift for wannabe claims of "secret" missions, CIA missions, records burned in St. Louis, etc.  If you find ut his address, and can summarize his Vietnam POW
claims, we can get his service record from St. Louis through a FOIA
request.  Please work with Mary Schantag at POW Network for any investigative effort.  I can only assist.  She is the real investigative talent to find out Mr. Belotti's real background.

This incident was reported in "The Winneconne News"; the Newspaper article was published in Volume 89. Number 23 on June 07, 2000.

Mr. William O. Benedict first denied making this Claim when confronted with he fact that he is not listed on the Official Department Of Defense List of People Missing South East Asia, PMSEA. When the Newspaper insisted that they had quoted him correctly, and three School Board Members also stated that Benedict did in fact present himself as a Vietnam POW, he took the position that he had misspoke.

He now states that he was a POW of the Korean War.

Claims to have been in the Navy, combat, POW and then went in the army and had to take basic training all over again.

USAF hero F-105 thud pilot former 2 year POW.     Claims: CPT/MAJ.  Claims he was shot down circa 67'  69' time frame....   that when released as a POW after about 2 years that he left the USAF and had a career with N.Y.P.D., subsequently retiring and moving with the brother (the Army Captain) to the Philippines.

He did state that he was an F-102 "fighter" pilot (not F-105) who's mission was mostly dropping Napalm bombs for "Troop Ground Support" missions and dropping Napalm on Haiphong Harbor North Vietnam, where he was shot down and became a POW! Circa, 1969.  Although shot down by a S.A.M. over N. Vietnam, he was immediately moved to Laos and Cambodia, but couldn't remember where or the names of the camps.   After release, he spent 32 years with the NYPD.  *** He proudly claims permanent special VA compensation as a POW for life.  He's not exactly sure who pays it.

* The "F" stands for Fighter, Not "B" for bomber.  A limited action fighter escort/interceptor  aircraft in V.N.  Several went down, mostly from mechanical, accidents, 1 shot down - but not as described by the POW.
NEVER HELD CAPTIVE...Perusing his personnel record form, there is no mention of USAF Flight School or aircraft qualifications.  He appears to have been trained as an airborne radar operator only with 40+ missions in Viet Nam.  Discharged as an E-4!   Additionally - NO record of POW or MIA or Escapee status.

ALLIANCE On Sunday afternoon, millions of people were thinking about football. At Freedom Square, about 100 people were thinking about America’s missing soldiers....

“When one American is not worth the effort to be found, we as Americans have lost,” said Sherman Brick, the president of the Alliance Veterans Council, as he gave his opening remarks. He then read a poem he said was written by Dutch Beyer, 64, of Canton, when he was held prisoner in Laos for 16 days during the Vietnam War....

NOT noted as a POW or MIA by DOD in the PMSEA.

Subject: Re: Follow Up Question On Mr. Darwin L. "Dutch" Beyer, NOT a Vietnam POW

My editors decided that not being on the POW list in Washington was not sufficient proof that someone wasn’t a POW. They decided that unless we could prove he wasn’t a POW, we weren’t going to do a correction.
