        e.  Parent's Names: Father, NGUYEN THIEU (NGUYEENX, THIEEUV), living;
Mother, VAN THI THUOI (VAN, THIV THUOOIS), deceased

        f.  Circumstances of Capture.  On 2 May 71, while going through the
HON ME and HON DAT areas, RACH GIA (VC) Province, on an operation, the Z-4 Inf
Bn was attacked by an unidentified ARVN unit.  Source, NGUYEN HUU  THACH
(NGUYEENX, HUWUR THACHV) CMIC 0304-71, and NGUYEN VAN THANH (NGUYEENX,
VEAN THANH), CIMC 0303-71, were captured.

        g.  Significant Activities.  Source attended his village school from
1960 to 1968, after which he helped his parents with the farming until Apr 70.
In Apr 70, Source joined the NVA and was assigned to the 1st Sqd, 1st Plat,
15th Co, 4th Bn, 22d Inf Regt, MR-IV, located in CAU GIAT Village, QUYNH LUU
District, NGHE AN Province.  Source underwent basic infantry and infiltration
training with the 4th Bn until Nov 70.  After a 10-day leave at the
termination of training, the 4th Bn was designated the 2249 Infiltration
Group.  On 21 Nov 70, the group began infiltration from NGHE AN Province and
traveled through LAOS and CAMBODIA, arriving at an unknown regrouping station
in CAMBODIA, in Apr 71.  After a few days rest, Source was assigned to the 3d
Sqd, 2d Plat, 2d Co, Z-4 Bn, (unknown parent unit), and on or about 17 Apr
71, the Z-4 Bn left CAMBODIA for the RVN for an unknown operation (NFI).  On 2
May 71, while traveling, the battalion was attacked, and Source and two other
men were captured.

2.     US PW Sighting in NGHE AN Province, NVN.  The following responses are
in accordance with SIGR D-7CX-49018 (Prisoner of War Intelligence) and SICR
D-6C2-26423 (POW Information, NVN):

        a.  Circumstances of Sighting.  At approximately 1500 hours on a day
in early May 67, Source, while at his home in QUYNH DI Village, QUYNH LUU
District, NGHE AN Province, NVN, heard from a neighbor that four US PW had
been captured (NFI).  At that time, Source took his bicycle and rode to where
the four PW were located (vic WG7627).  When Source arrived at this location,
the PW were sitting down resting and drinking water.  They were guarded by
four members of the Department of Security who were armed with pistols and two
clips of ammunition per man (NFI).  The four PW were neither blindfolded nor
bound in any way.  Source observed the four PW for approximately five minutes,
after which he returned home.

        b.  Description of PW:

            (5)  Clothing Worn by PW:  All four PW wore camouflaged fatigues
with a zipper in the front which extended from the neck to the crotch.  All
four PW wore jungle combat boots.  All the PW wore rank and unit insignia, but
Source could not remember the designs.

            (6)  Physical Condition: Source could not provide any personal
information concerning the PW.

     c.  Evacuation Procedures:  At the time of sighting the four PW were
resting, but Source heard that the PW were being evacuated by means of the two
jeeps which he observed near the PW. Source could furnish no information as
to where the PW were being taken.

     d.  VC/NVA Policy Concerning the Treatment and disposition of US PW:
Source could not provide any information concerning the treatment and
disposition of US PW.

     e.  Biographical Correlation.  A biographical correlation was attempted
and proved negative due to the fact that no US PW were captured within the
approximate date and location provided by Source.

     f.  Photo Identification: Source was shown the US PW Photo Album dated 30
Jun 71, but could not make any identifications.

3.     Additional Information.  The following is a description of the
interrogator as provided by Source.  It is provided for comparative purposes:

(U)  COMMENTS: Source was cooperative and answered all questions willingly.
His answers to control questions were consistent.  Source was administered the
Cross-Cultural IQ Test and scored Low (110.  This report partially satisfies
the requirements of SICR D-7CX-49018 and SICR D-6C2-26423.
