Lance Corporal Calvin Wayne Wilkins, who joined the U.S. Marine Corps from Texas, served with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. On February 8, 1969, he was a member of a combat patrol in South Vietnam in the vicinity of grid coordinates ZC 100 200 when he stepped on an enemy mine. His fellow patrol members stated that LCpl Wilkins was carrying grenades, mines and other explosive material that detonated, making it impossible to recover his remains. Today, Lance Corporal Wilkins is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
