LCDR JAMES JOSEPH WRIGHT

Return to Service Member Profiles

On September 11, 1978, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Commander James Joseph Wright, missing from the Vietnam War.

Lieutenant Commander Wright, who joined the U.S. Navy from California, served with Attack Squadron 196, embarked aboard the USS Constellation (CVA-64). On November 2, 1967, he was a crewmember on board an A-6A Intruder on a mission against enemy targets near Hanoi, North Vietnam. The Intruder crashed during the mission and LCDR Wright was killed in the incident. Hostile presence in the area inhibited recovery efforts immediately following the crash. In 1978, the Vietnamese government repatriated human remains to the U.S. which were later identified as those of LCDR Wright

Lieutenant Commander Wright is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
