1LT Victor H. Thompson III was a U.S. Air Force pilot assigned to the 531st Tactical Fighter Squadron, 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, 7th Air Force. On March 16, 1967, Thompson was conducting a close air support mission over a Viet Cong base camp near the mouth of the Cua Soirap River. While making a strafing run over the target, his F-100 (#56-3277) jet was observed to impact the ground and explode after being struck by hostile fire. His body was not recovered. On August 21, 1973, remains believed to be Thompsonís were repatriated to the U.S. They were positively identified on January 10, 1974. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
