MAJ ROBERT DOUGLAS TRIER

Return to Service Member Profiles

On October 26, 1982, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Robert Douglas Trier, missing from the Vietnam War.

Major Trier entered the U.S. Air Force from Tennessee and served in the 17th Bombardment Wing. On December 20, 1965, he piloted an F-100F Super Sabre on a combat mission over Quang Ninh Province, North Vietnam. His aircraft went down during the mission and he was killed; his remains could not be recovered at the time. In 1982, his remains were returned to U.S. custody and analysts were able to confirm the identification.

Major Trier is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
