Seaman Melvin Douglas Seagraves, who joined the U.S. Navy from Texas, was a crew member aboard the USS Tripoli (LPH 10). On April 30, 1972, as the Tripoli was in the Gulf of Tonkin, he failed to report for his scheduled watch. He was reportedly last seen in the early afternoon that day. A search of the ship was conducted but found no sign of SN Seagraves. An aircraft search of the area the Tripoli had covered since SN Seagraves was last seen was also unsuccessful, and he remains unaccounted for. Today, Seaman Seagraves is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
