On June 27, 1983, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Colonel Farrell Junior Sullivan, missing from the Vietnam War.
Colonel Sullivan joined the U.S. Air Force from Texas and was a member of the 523rd Tactical Fighter Squadron. On June 27, 1972, he piloted an F-4E Phantom II that was shot down while flying over Hanoi, Vietnam. Colonel Sullivan was killed in the crash, and his remains could not be immediately recovered. In 1983, a joint U.S./Vietnamese investigate team recovered human remains from a burial site north of Hanoi that were soon after identified as those of Col Sullivan.
Colonel Sullivan is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
