REMARKS: 03/14/74 REMAINS RETURNED
CACCF/CRASH/PILOT/DIC
Ernest Stamm was according to our government a prisoner of war in North
Vietnam. His status was listed as a category 1 even though the other man
in the plane was listed as a category 2. His capture date was Novemeber
25, 1968. They say he died 60 days later in 1969. On March 19, 1969, 60
days after his status was changed from Missing in action TO Prisoner of
War! He was declared dead through the Missing Service Personnel Act of
the early 40's on August 13, 1974. His family was awarded approximately
$300.00 in POW pay, for poor food and living condition while he was
held. YET if the pay was processed according to his military records,
they are owed amost $10,000. The fight here is not for the money, but
the Government made repeated contacts with the family up until the Peace
Accords, telling them that he was held a prisoner, and they were working
on it. On top of all else, after being declared dead on August 13, 1974,
his records show that his remains were retunned ON MARCH 13, 1974. Those
remains are STILL in dispute, as records and autopsy reports do not
match.
