Lance Corporal John Howard Reeves entered the U.S. Marine Corps from Minnesota and served with Company D, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. On December 23, 1966, while on patrol near Da Nang, South Vietnam, he attempted to cross a river in the vicinity of (GC) BT 034 580 and was swept away by the strong current. A search of the area downstream failed to locate him or his body, and he remains unaccounted for. Today, Lance Corporal Reeves is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
