Lance Corporal Howard Ogden Jr. entered the U.S. Marine Corps from Nebraska and served in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. On October 18, 1967, his squad was sent to assist in the extraction of a reconnaissance unit under pressure from enemy forces in South Vietnam. While covering the withdrawal of his squad and the reconnaissance team, LCpl Ogden was reportedly killed by enemy fire. Due to continuing enemy pressure, his squad could not retrieve his body as they withdrew. Further attempts to recover his remains were unsuccessful. Today, Lance Corporal Ogden is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
