Sergeant Linus Lubin Oakley, who joined the U.S. Air Force from Arkansas, was a member of the 6100th Field Maintenance Squadron. On October 29, 1971, he went swimming at the beach at Herky Hill, Cam Ranh Bay Air Base, South Vietnam. He was last seen when a large wave engulfed him eighty yards from shore. Search and rescue teams were unable to locate him following the incident, and his remains were never recovered. Today, Sergeant Oakley is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
