Lance Corporal Truman Joseph McManus, who joined the U.S. Marine Corps from Connecticut, served with Battery C, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. On June 5, 1968, while on a combat mission in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, Lance Corporal McManus took a direct hit from an enemy explosive device. His fellow Marines searched for him following the explosion, but his remains could not be located. Further attempts to locate them were unsuccessful. Today, Lance Corporal McManus is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
