Fireman’s Apprentice Thomas Richard Muren, who joined the U.S. Navy from California, was a crew member aboard the USS John R. Craig (DD 885). On April 3, 1972, the John R. Craig was in the vicinity of (GC) 48Q YG 700 100 in the Gulf of Tonkin when FA Muren was reported missing. Fireman’s Apprentice Muren was last seen by his shipmates early that morning. An immediate search of the entire ship found no sign of him, and he remains unaccounted for. Today, Fireman’s Apprentice Muren is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
