MAJ EDWARD MONROE HUDGENS

Return to Service Member Profiles

On February 6, 1996, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Edward Monroe Hudgens, missing from the Vietnam War.

Major Hudgens joined the U.S. Air Force from Oklahoma and was a member of the 22nd Special Operations Squadron. On March 21, 1970, he piloted an A-1J Skyraider (tail number 142065) on a search and recovery mission over Laos. Major Hudgens's aircraft was downed by ground fire while flying over the target area, and he was killed in the ensuing crash. Heavy enemy presence in the area prevented immediate search and rescue for Maj Hudgens. After the war, a joint U.S. and Laotian investigative team conducted an excavation at a site associated with the loss of Maj Hudgens. They recovered remains that were identified as those of Maj Hudgens in 1996.

Major Hudgens is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
