CAPT GEORGE EDWARD FLYNN III

Return to Service Member Profiles

On January 13, 1976, the Central Identification Lab–Thailand (CILT, now DPAA) identified the remains of Captain George Edward Flynn III, missing from the Vietnam War.

Captain Flynn entered the U.S. Air Force from Louisiana and served in the 1st Air Commando Squadron. On September 23, 1964, he piloted an A-1E Skyraider (tail number 52-132441) on a night alert mission over South Vietnam. While over Kien Giang Province, the Skyraider was hit by enemy fire and Capt Flynn was forced to bail out. Attempts to locate him over the course of the next several days were unsuccessful. He died at some point following the loss of his aircraft, although the detailed circumstances of his death are not known; he was initially reported as captured, but in 1973, a set of remains were forwarded to the CILT that were eventually identified as those of Capt Flynn.
