Babcok's entire story took place in one 24 hour period on 1/31/68 when he was shot down, captured and escaped.
He was captured and held briefly by the enemy on the first day of TET 1968 when his gunship was downed by heavy ground fire near Hue. His co-pilot and one of his two other crewman was killed. They had fought as long as they could until basically running out of ammo. Reportedly, the VC set fire to the aircraft.
One of the “slicks” saw the smoke and attacked the group of VC that were holding Babcock and the crew. They were rescued at that point and Babcock and his other crewman were saved.
Lee and Delgado's remains were believed to have been recovered in February of 1968. Lee was single, Delgado married at the time of their loss.
